Billabong Pipeline Masters 2017
The Billabong Pipe Masters, is an annual event of the Association of Surfing Professionals for 2017 World Surf League, it is the final event of the Triple Crown of Surfing. This event was held from 8 to 20 December at Banzai Pipeline, Oahu (Hawaii, United States) and consisted of the world's best surfers competing for Champion of the renowned Banzai pipeline. Banzai Pipeline
The Banzai Pipeline, or simply Pipeline or Pipe, is a surf reef break located in Hawaii, off Ehukai Beach Park in Pupukea on O'ahu's North Shore. A reef break is an area in the ocean where waves start to break once they reach the shallows of a reef. Pipeline is known for huge waves that break in shallow water just above a sharp and cavernous reef, forming large, hollow, thick curls of water that surfers can tube ride. There are three reefs at Pipeline in progressively deeper water farther out to sea that activate according to the increasing size of approaching ocean swells. Origin of the name The location's compound name combines the name of the surf break (Pipeline) with the name of the beach fronting it (Banzai Beach). It got its name in December 1961, when surfing legend producer Bruce Brown was driving up north with Californians Phil Edwards and Mike Diffenderfer. Ethan Ewing (born 2 September 1998, in North Stradbroke Island, Queensland) is an Australian professional surfer. Ewing had his best WSL performance in 2023, when he finished 3rd on the CT after the regular season. Bede Durbidge
Bede Durbidge (born 23 February 1983) is an Australian professional surfer competing on the World Surf League World Tour. Durbo, Bej and The White Fijian are his nicknames. Life Bede Durbidge was born in Brisbane, Queensland and grew up in Point Lookout, on North Stradbroke Island. He began in the Australasian Junior Series, and after four years in the World Qualifying Series joined the World Championship Tour in 2005. As a professional, his strongest achievement is winning the Boost Mobile Pro in Trestles, San Clemente, California. Only five waves was enough for him to defeat the seven-time champion Kelly Slater. Jordan Michael "Jordy" Smith (born 11 February 1988) is a South African professional surfer, competing on the World championship tour surfing (WCT). In 2007 Smith won surfing's World Qualifying Series, the second-tier tour which leads to qualification for the World championship tour (WCT) surfing. Jordy Smith won both the 2010 and 2011 Billabong J-Bay competitions in South Africa. He has also won 2014 and 2016 Hurley Pro at trestles California . In 2013 he won the Rio Pro in Brazil. Stuart Robert Kennedy (born 31 May 1953) is a Scottish former footballer who played as a right-back for Falkirk and Aberdeen. He made eight appearances for the Scotland national team. Julian Wilson (born 8 November 1988) is an Australian professional surfer who competes on the World Surf League Men's World Tour. Personal life Wilson was born and raised in Coolum Beach, Queensland. He is an ambassador for the National Breast Cancer Foundation. Wilson's mother is a breast cancer survivor, and he was inspired to ride a pink board by a close family friend and international cricketer, Matthew Hayden, who plays with a pink bat for the corresponding cause.
