''Billa'' is a 2007 Indian Tamil-language action thriller film directed by Vishnuvardhan. It is a remake of 1980 Tamil film ''Billa'' which itself was a remake of the 1978 Hindi film ''Don''. The film stars Ajith Kumar who plays a double role as an underworld don and his friendly look-alike alongside Nayanthara and Namitha, while Prabhu, Rahman, Adithya Menon, and Santhanam playing supporting roles. It is produced by L. Suresh and Abdurrahman M while featuring a score and soundtrack by Yuvan Shankar Raja, cinematography by Nirav Shah and editing by A. Sreekar Prasad. The project commenced in April 2007 and was released and distributed worldwide by Ayngaran International on 14 December 2007. The film, upon release, emerged successful, and was selected to be screened at the 61st Cannes Film Festival. Salim–Javed were an Indian screenwriting duo, composed of Salim Khan and Javed Akhtar, working in Bollywood. Adithya Menon (born 6 April 1974) is an Indian actor who appears in Telugu, Tamil, Malayalam, Kannada and Hindi films. ''Pattiyal'' () is a 2006 Indian Tamil-language crime thriller film written and directed by Vishnuvardhan and produced by Punnagai Poo Gheetha. Billa (character)
Don is a fictional character in the ''Don'' film franchise. He was first introduced in the 1978 film ''Don''. He later appears in a remake ''Don'' and its sequel ''Don 2''. The character was created by the writer duo Salim–Javed (Salim Khan and Javed Akhtar), and was portrayed by Amitabh Bachchan. In the reboot series, Don was played by Shah Rukh Khan. Don was briefly portrayed by Hrithik Roshan in ''Don 2'' as well in a special appearance. In the films, Don is characterized as diabolically evil and cunning with zero empathy or remorse, though he is shown to exhibit a little romantic interest in his friend-turned-foe Roma.
