William Patterson (15 September 1888 – 17 September 1956) was an Australian rules footballer who played for the St Kilda Football Club in the Victorian Football League (VFL). Patterson made 11 appearances for St Kilda, with the only win coming against University. Noorat
Noorat is a small township in southwestern Victoria, Australia. Noorat is located approximately 211 km west of Melbourne. The township is located at the base of Mount Noorat, a dormant volcano, which is considered to have Australia's largest dry crater. At the 2006 census, Noorat had a population of 252. By 2011, according to the census, the population had dropped to 167, although this drop in numbers is a bit deceptive as the town boundary was changed in between the 2006 and 2011 census. Noorat derives its name from Mount Noorat, a dormant volcano named by explorer Major Thomas Mitchell after a local Indigenous elder, Ngoora. Europeans first settled the Noorat area in early 1839 when MacKillop and Smith established a run called Strathdownie – which was renamed Glenormiston by Niel Black, a Gaelic-speaking Scotsman from Cowall in Argyll who purchased the property in 1840. Australian football, also called Australian rules football or Aussie rules, or more simply football or footy, is a contact sport played between two teams of 18 players on an oval field, often a modified cricket ground. Points are scored by kicking the oval ball between the central goal posts (worth six points), or between a central and outer post (worth one point, otherwise known as a "behind"). The Australian Football League (AFL) is the only fully professional competition of Australian rules football. Through the AFL Commission, the AFL also serves as the sport's governing body and is responsible for controlling the laws of the game. Edward Augustus "Ansell" Clarke (12 August 1907 – 15 October 2002) was an Australian rules footballer in the Victorian Football League. Football Clarke made his debut for the Carlton Football Club in Round 7 of the 1929 season. He was appointed captain in 1937. The North Melbourne Football Club, nicknamed the Kangaroos, is a professional Australian rules football club.
