William McCoy (bootlegger)
William Frederick "Bill" McCoy (August 17, 1877 – December 30, 1948), was an American sea captain and rum-runner during the Prohibition in the United States. In pursuing the trade of smuggling alcohol from the Bahamas to the Eastern Seaboard, Capt. McCoy,John Kobler, ''Ardent Spirits: The Rise and Fall of Prohibition'' (New York: Da Capo Press, 1973), p. 257. found a role model in John Hancock of pre-revolutionary Boston and considered himself an "honest lawbreaker." McCoy took pride in the fact that he never paid a cent to organized crime, politicians, or law enforcement for protection. Unlike many operations that illegally produced and smuggled alcohol for consumption during Prohibition, McCoy sold his merchandise unadulterated, uncut and clean. William McCoy (congressman)
William McCoy (September 20, 1768August 19, 1835) was an 18th- and 19th-century politician from Virginia. Early life William McCoy was born near Warrenton in Fauquier County in the Colony of Virginia. Career McCoy was a member of the Virginia House of Delegates from 1798 to 1804. He was elected a Democratic-Republican, Crawford Republican and Jacksonian to the United States House of Representatives in 1810, serving from 1811 to 1833. There, he served as chairman of the Committee on Claims from 1827 to 1829. William McCoy (mutineer)
The complement of , the Royal Navy ship on which a historic mutiny occurred in the south Pacific on 28 April 1789, comprised 46 men on its departure from England in December 1787 and 44 at the time of the mutiny, including her commander Lieutenant William Bligh. All but two of those aboard were Royal Navy personnel; the exceptions were two civilian botanists engaged to supervise the breadfruit plants ''Bounty'' was tasked to take from Tahiti to the West Indies. Of the 44 aboard at the time of the mutiny, 19 (including Bligh) were set adrift in the ship's launch, while 25, a mixture of mutineers and detainees, remained on board under Fletcher Christian. Bligh led his loyalists to safety in the open boat, and ultimately back to England. William McCoy (Oregon Politician)
William McCoy (June 11, 1921 – April 1996), was an American politician from Oregon. In 1972, he was the first African American elected to the Oregon State Legislature. After serving one term in the Oregon House of Representatives, he was appointed to serve in the Oregon Senate. In the next election he was elected to the same seat and served until his death in 1996. His senate district covered North Portland and much of Northeast Portland. He was a Democrat. Early life, education, and career William McCoy was born in Indianola, Mississippi on June 11, 1921. He attended high school in Missouri and attended Lincoln University for three years, studying political science. He joined the U.S. Navy in 1942 and served three years during World War II. He moved to Portland, Oregon after the war and earned a BA degree from the University of Portland in business administration and political science. William John McCoy (September 30, 1834June 28, 1897) was an American farmer, Democratic politician, and Wisconsin pioneer. He served six years in the Wisconsin State Assembly, representing Grant County. Biography McCoy was born on September 30, 1834, in Argyle, New York. He moved to Beetown, Wisconsin, in 1852 and to Lancaster, Wisconsin, in 1880. McCoy died on June 28, 1897. Career McCoy was elected to the Assembly in 1875 and served four terms. Willie McCoy, also known as Willie Bo, was a 20 year old African-American rapper, killed by six police officers in Vallejo, California, on February 9, 2019. The officers had responded to a 9-1-1, 911 call of an unconscious man in a vehicle in a Taco Bell drive through, when they found McCoy, with a .40 caliber handgun (later determined to be stolen from Oregon) with an High-capacity magazine, extended magazine on his lap. Background Early life and rapping McCoy lost both parents to cancer by the time he was 12 years old. He did well at sports in school, and earned his General Educational Development, GED before dropping out to pursue music. Collaborators noted his work ethic and desire to succeed.
