Bill Large
William Large (2 July 1937 – 15 March 2006) was an English professional golfer. He was born in Liverpool, where his father, Bill Large, Sr., was professional at the Allerton Municipal course. His father had won the Northern Professional Championship in 1928. Large's first important win was in the Honda Foursomes Tournament in 1966 where he and his partner, Jimmy Hitchcock, beat the experienced pair of Peter Alliss and Christy O'Connor Snr in the final. He was joint winner of two individual tournaments, the 1966 Martini International and the 1968 Alcan International. Peter Alliss
Peter Alliss (28 February 1931 – 5 December 2020) was an English professional golfer, television presenter, commentator, author and golf course designer. Following the death of Henry Longhurst in 1978, he was regarded by many as the "Voice of golf". In 2012 he was inducted into the World Golf Hall of Fame in the Lifetime Achievement category. Between 1952 and 1969, Alliss won 20 professional tournaments, including three British PGA Championships, in 1957, 1962 and 1965. He had five top-10 finishes in the Open Championship, coming closest in 1954 at Royal Birkdale when he finished four shots behind the champion Peter Thomson. The Open Championship
The Open Championship, often referred to as The Open or the British Open, is the oldest golf tournament in the world, and one of the most prestigious. Founded in 1860, it was originally held annually at Prestwick Golf Club in Scotland. Later the venue rotated between a select group of coastal links golf courses in the United Kingdom. The Alcan Golfer of the Year Championship, also known as the Alcan Open, was an international golf tournament played from 1967 to 1970. Martini International
The Martini International was a men's professional golf tournament that was held from 1961 to 1983. It was hosted by several different golf clubs in England, Scotland and Wales. It was part of the British PGA tournament circuit, which evolved into the European Tour, and as such is recognised as an official European Tour event from 1972. The winners included the major champions Peter Thomson, Greg Norman, Nick Faldo and Seve Ballesteros. In 1983 the prize fund was £80,308, which was mid-range for a European Tour event at the time. The tournament was sponsored by beverage company Martini & Rossi. Christy O'Connor Snr
Patrick Christopher "Christy" O'Connor (21 December 1924 – 14 May 2016) was an Irish professional golfer. He was one of the leading golfers on the British and Irish circuit from the mid-1950s. O'Connor won over 20 important British and Irish tournaments and finished in the top 10 in the Open Championship on 10 occasions. Later he had considerable success in seniors events, twice winning the World Senior Championship. In team events he played in 10 successive Ryder Cup matches and played in 15 Canada Cup/World Cup matches for Ireland, winning the Canada Cup in 1958 in partnership with Harry Bradshaw. Jimmy Hitchcock (golfer)
James Hitchcock (1930 – 25 December 2015) was an English professional golfer. Hitchcock was born in Bromley. He won several major professional tournaments including the 1960 British Masters and the 1965 Agfa-Gevaert Tournament. He was selected as a member of the Great Britain and Ireland Ryder Cup team in 1965, losing all three of the matches he played. The Honda Foursomes Tournament was a professional golf tournament played at Mere Golf Club in Mere, Cheshire Mere is a civil parish and linear village along the old course of the A556 road in the unitary authority of Cheshire East and the ceremonial county of Cheshire, North West England, about south-west of Altrincham.
