William Hanley
William Hanley (October 22, 1931 – May 25, 2012) was an American playwright, novelist, and scriptwriter, born in Lorain, Ohio. Hanley wrote plays for the theatre, radio and television and published three novels in the 1970s. He was related to the British writers James and Gerald Hanley, and the actress Ellen Hanley was his sister. Life William G. Hanley was born on October 22, 1931, Lorain, Ohio, one of three children of William Gerald and Anne Rodgers Hanley. William Hanley, Sr. was born in Liverpool, England in 1899, of Irish Catholic immigrants. He was a seaman prior to settling in the US, and then worked as a housepainter. Shortly after Hanley's birth the family moved to Queens, New York. Hanley attended Cornell for a year, then served in the Army in the early 1950s, before enrolling at the American Academy of Dramatic Arts, though he never pursued an acting career. Bill Hanley (ice Hockey)
William Hanley (February 28, 1915 – September 17, 1990) was a Canadian ice hockey administrator inducted into the builder category of the Hockey Hall of Fame. Early life Hanley was born in the village of Ballyeaston when his mother was visiting what is now Northern Ireland, and he returned to Canada when he was only a few weeks old and grew up in Toronto. During high school, Hanley played on the Oakwood Collegiate Institute hockey team. After high school, Hanley attended the Ontario Agricultural College, and later worked on his parents' farm. Hanley joined the Royal Canadian Navy during World War II, and also served with Conn Smythe's 30th Battery that was part of the 7th Toronto Regiment, RCA. Bill Hanley (rancher)
William D. Hanley (February 8, 1861 – September 15, 1935) was a pioneer rancher in Harney County in southeastern Oregon. He owned several ranches between Burns, Oregon and Harney Lake. Together, his properties comprised one of the largest privately owned cattle operations in the United States. Hanley was also a progressive thinker and well known host. Among his personal friends were leading political figures, fellow cattle barons, industrialist, writers, and artists including Theodore Roosevelt, William Howard Taft, William Jennings Bryan, Peter French, James J. Hill, CES Wood, and Will Rogers. Hanley's progressive political views led him to run for Governor of Oregon and the United States Senate. Bill Hanley (born 1937) is an American audio engineer and is regarded as the "father of festival sound". He is most widely known as the sound engineer behind the Woodstock festival in Bethel, New York in August 1969. He was also influential in a number of other festivals. According to Michael Lang, "I was trying to find someone who could do a sound system for Woodstock, and there was no one who had ever done something like that before. Then there was this crazy guy in Boston who might want to take a shot at it." Hanley ran the soundboard for Bob Dylan's controversial "electric" set at the 1965 Newport Folk Festival.
