Big Bill Edwards
William Hanford "Big Bill" Edwards (February 23, 1877 – January 4, 1943) was an American football player who played guard for the Princeton Tigers football team of Princeton University from 1896 to 1899. Biography He was born on February 23, 1877, in Lisle, New York. After graduation, he became an official, and in 1916 wrote a book entitled ''Football Days'', which is perhaps the most extensive first-hand account of American college football in the 19th century. In 1906, Edwards was the referee for the first game of the "Ohio League" championship between the Canton Bulldogs and the Massillon Tigers. The two-game series was the setting for a game-rigging scandal that eventually resulted in the demise of both teams. During the scandal, members of the Bulldogs were accused of throwing the championship to the Tigers. Bill Edwards (basketball)
William Allen Edwards (born August 28, 1971) is an American former professional basketball player. He was a 2.03 m (6'8") tall small forward-power forward. His nickname was "Dollar Bill Edwards". College career Edwards played college basketball at Wright State University, where he became one of the school's legends. He was voted the Summit League Player of the Year in 1993. Professional career Edwards was never drafted by an NBA franchise, and despite having played a few games with the Philadelphia 76ers during the 1993–94 season, it was in Europe that he had a significant 12-year career. He played in the EuroLeague with the Greek club PAOK, in the 1999–00 season, and in the FIBA SuproLeague, with the French club ASVEL, in the 2000–01 season. Bill Edwards (December 1, 1922 – February 7, 2000) was an American film and television actor, championship rodeo rider, and artist. Early years Bill Edwards was born as Edgar William Willar Junior in Pennsylvania outside of Philadelphia. He graduated from the Valley Forge Academy, attended Colgate University, and graduated from Haverford College. Edwards began drawing horses as a child and became a noted artist as an adult. At one point, Bill become a championship rodeo rider but Broken bones brought his riding career to a halt, and the 6-foot-5 Bill Edwards became a model in New York City. William H. Edwards (1874 – after 1896) was an English professional footballer who played in the Football League for Small Heath. Edwards was born in Coventry, Warwickshire. An outside left, he played football for Singer's before joining Small Heath in September 1896 as a replacement for Tommy Hands, who had walked out of the club after six seasons as first choice on the left wing. Edwards made his debut in the Second Division on the opening day of the 1896–97 season in a 3–1 win at home to Newcastle United, and played four of the next six games, scoring once, before losing his place and not regaining it.Matthews, p. 144. William Miller Edwards (June 21, 1905 – June 12, 1987) was an American football player and coach. He served as the head football coach at Western Reserve University, Vanderbilt University and Wittenberg University in a career lasting more than 30 years, compiling a win-loss-tie record of 168–45–8. Edwards also coached the Detroit Lions of the National Football League (NFL) from 1941 to 1942, tallying a 4–9–1 record, and served as an assistant coach for the NFL's Cleveland Browns in the late 1940s. Raised near Massillon, Ohio, Edwards was the son of an immigrant from Wales who worked in the area's coal mines. Billy Edwards (21 December 1844 – 12 August 1907) was a lightweight boxer of the late 1860s and 1870s in England. Professional career Nicknamed "Make-Believe Billy", Edwards was born in Birmingham, Warwickshire. He began boxing at the age of 14 and fought Sam Collyer on 24 August 1868 for the American Lightweight Championship. Edwards won the fight in the 34th-round to win the title. William Frank Edwards (24 October 1895 – 4 June 1952) was a Welsh professional footballer who played in the Football League for Newport County and West Ham United as an outside right. He later represented Herefordshire at bowls and won the National Triples title in 1950. Personal life Prior to his service in the First World War, Edwards worked as a motor driver.
