Bill Amick
Bill Amick (November 16, 1925 – July 15, 1995) was a NASCAR Grand National Series and West Coast driver from Portland, Oregon. He has one win, nineteen top-fives, twenty-seven top 10s, and five poles in Grand National. Driving career After racing in the NASCAR Pacific Coast Late Model Series, Amick jumped to the Grand National Series in 1954 and ran six races. Two years later, he was able to finish seventeenth in the standings. He improved that in 1957, to sixteenth place. That year, he also won his first and only race at the Capital Speedway in Sacramento, California. That was his highest point finish in his NASCAR Grand National Career. He only raced Grand National part-time because he wanted to focus on the Pacific Coast Late Models in which he finished second in the standings in 1964 and won the championship a year later. 1957 NASCAR Grand National Series
The 1957 NASCAR Grand National Series saw driver Buck Baker win his second consecutive NASCAR Grand National Series championship. Baker won the championship with 10,716 points over second place driver Marvin Panch (9,956), and Speedy Thompson (8,560). Baker was the first driver to win back-to-back NASCAR championships. Baker accumulated $30,764 for his efforts in the 1957 NASCAR season. This was the last season until the 1993 season without Richard Petty. Can-Am Series
The Canadian-American Challenge Cup, or Can-Am, was an SCCA/ CASC sports car racing series from 1966 to 1987. History Can-Am started out as a race series for group 7 sports racers with two races in Canada (''Can'') and four races in the United States of America (''Am''). The series was initially sponsored by Johnson Wax. The series was governed by rules called out under the FIA group 7 category with unrestricted engine capacity and few other technical restrictions. The group 7 category was essentially a Formula Libre for sports cars; the regulations were minimal and permitted unlimited engine sizes (and allowed turbocharging and supercharging), virtually unrestricted aerodynamics, and were as close as any major international racing series ever got to have an "anything goes" policy. Lyndon Amick
Lyndon Amick (born June 30, 1977) is a former NASCAR driver. He spent most of his NASCAR career in the NASCAR Busch Series driving for his family-owned team. Racing career Amick was the 1996 NASCAR Goody's Dash series champion. Amick made his NASCAR Busch Series debut in 1997, driving the No. 35 Pontiac Grand Prix owned by his father, Bill. Despite sharing the same last name, his father wasn't the Bill Amick who have raced in the NASCAR Winston West Series. He had sponsorship from Rockwell Automation and ran fifteen races. Amick made his first career start in the 1997 race at Daytona International Speedway. He started in the 37th position in the 45-car field, but finished 44th after a multi-car crash on lap 28 forced him out of the race early. George Amick
George Reggie "Little George" Amick (October 24, 1924 – April 4, 1959) was an American racecar driver, mainly competing in the American National Championship. He was killed in a crash in a USAC race at Daytona International Speedway. Racing career Amick began racing in jalopies in the Northwestern United States before switching to midget car racing. He competed in USAC National midgets for three seasons, finishing in the top ten points each season, and won 16 feature races. He totaled 38 wins including the 1957 Turkey Night Grand Prix. He moved to Indy cars and won three times in 43 starts. In his rookie appearance at the Indianapolis 500 in 1958, Amick was assigned a "lay-down" roadster commissioned by car owner Norm Demler, designed by Quinn Epperly, and built by master Indianapolis chief mechanic George Salih. Oakland Speedway
The Oakland Speedway was the first motor racing track near Oakland, California, a one-mile, banked dirt oval track built in 1931, which operated throughout the Great Depression and postwar years.
