Bilkees Latif
Bilkees Idrees Latīf (c. 1930 – 27 October 2017) was an Indian social worker and writer from Telangana, known for her work in the slums of India. She was a founding member of INTACH. She is the author of several articles and five books, including ''Essential Andhra Cookbook'', ''Fragrance of Forgotten Years'' and ''The Ladder of His Life : Biography of Air Chief Marshal Idris Latif''. The Government of India awarded her the fourth-highest civilian honour of the Padma Shri, in 2009, for her contributions to society. Background and early life Bilkees Latif was born into an affluent Muslim family of Hyderabad State in India, the daughter of Ali Yavar Jung, a nobleman of Hyderabad State, by his first wife Alys Iffrig. The Padma Bhushan is the third-highest civilian award in the Republic of India, preceded by the Bharat Ratna and the Padma Vibhushan and followed by the Padma Shri. Penguins ( order Sphenisciformes , family Spheniscidae ) are a group of aquatic flightless birds. They live almost exclusively in the Southern Hemisphere: only one species, the Galápagos penguin, is found north of the Equator.
