Bike Engined Car
A bike-engined car is a small or light weight car that is powered by an engine that was designed for use in a motorcycle. Characteristics Early examples of bike-engined cars include the 1948 Invacar and the 1949 Bond Minicar, both of which were designed as basic, low-cost transportation. Modern motorcycle engines are often available with higher specific outputs than car engines, which provides a performance advantage in a lightweight car. The motorcycle's sequential gearbox is often fitted with the engine, allowing for fast gearshifts. The drawbacks of using motorcycle engines in cars are the lack of reverse gear and reduced torque output at low RPM. Performance models of bike-engined cars are often based on the Lotus 7-type kit cars. AC Petite
The AC Petite is a three-wheeled British microcar with a rear-mounted Villiers single cylinder, two-stroke engine. Peel Trident
The Peel Trident is the second three-wheeled microcar made by the Peel Engineering Company on the Isle of Man. An all-new design from its one-seat counterpart the Peel P50, the Trident has two seats. History The Trident was launched at the 1964 British Motorcycle Show held at Earls Court. The seat, stated as being wide, was intended to provide for use as an occasional two-seater. A completely new design from the earlier side-engined Peel P50 microcar, the Trident was manufactured in 1965 and 1966. Peel P50
The Peel P50 is a three-wheeled microcar originally made from 1962 to 1965 by the Peel Engineering Company on the Isle of Man, and then from 2011 to present. It was listed in the 2010 Guinness World Records as the smallest production car ever made. The original model has no reverse gear, but a handle at the rear allows the very lightweight car to be maneuvered physically when required. Designed as a city car, it was advertised in the 1960s as capable of seating "one adult and a shopping bag." The vehicle's only door was on its left side and equipment included a single windscreen wiper and one headlight. Standard colours were Daytona White, Dragon Red, and Dark Blue. The 1963 model retailed for £199 when new (about £6,600 in 2019, or US$8,500). Morgan Motor Company
The Morgan Motor Company is a British motor car manufacturer owned by Italian investment group Investindustrial. It was founded in 1910 by Henry Frederick Stanley Morgan. Morgan is based in Malvern Link, an area of Malvern, and employs approximately 220 people. Morgan produce 850 cars per year, all assembled by hand. The waiting list for a car is approximately six months, but has sometimes been as long as ten years. Morgan cars are unusual in that wood has been used in their construction for a century, and is still used in the 21st century for framing the body shell. Heinkel Kabine
The Heinkel Kabine was a microcar designed by Heinkel, Heinkel Flugzeugwerke and built by them from 1956 to 1958. Production was transferred under licence to Dundalk Engineering Company in Ireland in 1958. However, the licence was withdrawn shortly afterwards due to poor quality control. Production restarted in 1960, again under licence, under the Trojan 200 name by Trojan (automobile), Trojan Cars Ltd. in the UK, and continued until 1966. Meadows Frisky is the name of a series of small British cars manufactured at the factory of '' Henry Meadows Ltd'' at Fallings Park in Wolverhampton between 1958 and 1961, during which time, production was under the control of a number of companies. History The Frisky car project was conceived by Captain Raymond Flower, racing driver and Managing Director of the ''Cairo Motor Co Ltd.'', Nuffield distributors in Egypt. Flower operated the company with his two brothers, Derek and Neville, all of whom were part of the brewing dynasty of Flower & Sons of Stratford on Avon. Fairthorpe Cars
Fairthorpe cars were made in Chalfont St Peter, Buckinghamshire, England between 1954 and 1961, from 1961 to 1973 in Denham, Buckinghamshire. Fairthorpe Ltd was founded by Air Vice Marshal Donald Bennett. Fairthorpe Ltd remains listed (as does Technical Exponents Ltd) at Denham Green Lane (as at 2007), but Fairthorpe does not trade. Atom and Atomota The first cars were lightweight two-seat models powered by motorcycle engines and with glassfibre bodies.
