Big House (Canadian Band)
Big House was a Canadian punk-influenced rock band, based in Edmonton, Alberta, and active in the early 1990s."Big House just rocks 'n' rolls: Edmonton band leaves its punk days behind". History The band began in 1982, when singer and guitarist Jan Ek and drummer Sjor Throndson moved to Edmonton from their hometown of Portage la Prairie, Manitoba, where they had grown up together. Both had been steeped in classic rock, but were now hooked on Punk rock. In Edmonton, they joined the punk band Down Syndrome, which had been founded by Tim Balash, Laurie Bulback and Bob Kropotkin. Down Syndrome released one self-titled album, in 1984. In 1986, Balash, Bulback and Kropotkin left the band; Ek and Throndson found replacements in guitarist Kevin 'K. B.' Much is a Canadian English language discretionary specialty channel owned by BCE Inc. through its Bell Media subsidiary that airs programming aimed at teenagers and young adults. Prior to 2013, the channel was officially known as MuchMusic, though "Much" has been the branding most commonly seen on-air since 1997. MuchMusic launched on August 31, 1984, under the ownership of CHUM Limited, and was originally focused on music programming, including blocks of music videos and original series focusing on Canadian musicians. In the years since its acquisition by Bell, Much has cancelled the majority of its music programming due to budget and staffing cuts. The Juno Awards of 1992, representing Canadian music industry achievements of the previous year, were awarded on 29 March 1992 in Toronto at a ceremony in the O'Keefe Centre. Rick Moranis was the host for the ceremonies, which were broadcast on CBC Television from 9 pm Eastern. Nominations were announced 12 February 1992. Slik Toxik was a Canadian hard rock band formed in 1988 in Toronto. Biography Slik Toxik was formed out of Toronto hard rock band Portrait. Portrait consisted of original members singer/guitarist Nick Walsh, drummer Kevin Harrison, guitarist Kevin Gale and bassist/ lyricist Dave Mercel.
