''Big Day'', originally titled ''A Day in the Life'', is an American television sitcom that first aired on ABC from November 28, 2006, to January 30, 2007. The series was co-produced by Josh Goldsmith and Cathy Yuspa and directed by Michael Spiller for Sony Pictures Television. Originally, it was supposed to debut on October 5, 2006, along with '' Notes from the Underbelly'', but ABC made a last-minute change in its schedule by moving ''Ugly Betty'' to Thursday, thus replacing both sitcoms whose "buzz" was not especially promising. ''Big Day'' was broadcast on Tuesdays at 9:00/8:00c. The timeslot was to be filled by another new sitcom that had a better "buzz," ''The Knights of Prosperity'', but ABC moved that program to Wednesdays to make ''Big Day'' a priority. According to the ratings, ''Big Day'' turned out to be a ratings disappointment. Sitcom
A sitcom, a portmanteau of situation comedy, or situational comedy, is a genre of comedy centered on a fixed set of characters who mostly carry over from episode to episode. Sitcoms can be contrasted with sketch comedy, where a troupe may use new characters in each sketch, and stand-up comedy, where a comedian tells jokes and stories to an audience. Sitcoms originated in radio, but today are found mostly on television as one of its dominant narrative forms. A situation comedy television program may be recorded in front of a studio audience, depending on the program's production format. The effect of a live studio audience can be imitated or enhanced by the use of a laugh track. Critics disagree over the utility of the term "sitcom" in classifying shows that have come into existence since the turn of the century. ''Notes from the Underbelly'' is an American sitcom that was aired on ABC from 2007 to 2008, originally debuting as a mid-season replacement. The series is based on the 2005 novel of the same name by Risa Green, and was produced by Eric and Kim Tannenbaum (previously producing ''Two and a Half Men'') for Warner Bros. Television. The title is a parody of Dostoevsky's novel ''Notes from Underground''. Originally, it was supposed to debut on October 5, 2006, along with ''Big Day'', but ABC made a last-minute change in its schedule by moving ''Ugly Betty'' to Thursday, thus replacing both sitcoms. ''Worst Week'' is an American sitcom television series that premiered on CBS on September 22, 2008. The series was based on the British sitcom ''The Worst Week of My Life''. It was adapted for American audiences by Fox under the title ''Worst Week of My Life'', but a series didn't materialize after the pilot was filmed. The series aired on CBS Mondays at 9:30pm ET/PT, following ''Two and a Half Men''. The premiere attracted 11 million viewers but lost a third of its lead-in audience. Ratings dropped to a low of 8.4 million viewers with the sixth episode, but then began to climb steadily, reaching a high of 12.12 million viewers with the eleventh episode before declining again.
