Big Creek (Current River Tributary)
Big Creek is a stream in Shannon and Texas counties in the Ozarks of southern Missouri. It is a tributary of the Current River. The stream headwaters are in Texas County at and the confluence with the Current is in the northwest corner of Shannon County at . Cedargrove lies just north of the confluence. Razor Hollow flows parallel to the lower reaches of Big Creek and enters the Current about two miles southeast of Big Creek's confluence. Big Creek was so named on account of its size. Shannon County, Missouri
Shannon County is a county in the southern portion of the U.S. state of Missouri. As of the 2020 census, the population was 7,031. Its county seat is Eminence. The county was officially organized on January 29, 1841, and was named in honor of George F. "Peg-Leg" Shannon, a member of the Lewis and Clark Expedition. It is the second-largest county by area in Missouri. Missouri's first copper mine was opened in Shannon County in 1846 and Missouri's only manganese mine was opened here during World War II. Texas County, Missouri
Texas County is a county located in the southern portion of the U.S. state of Missouri. As of the 2020 census, the population was 24,487. Its county seat is Houston. The county was organized in 1843 as Ashley County, changing its name in 1845 to Texas, after the Republic of Texas. Current River (Ozarks)
The Current River forms in the southeastern portion of the Ozarks of Missouri and becomes a 7th order stream as it flows southeasterly out of the Ozarks into northeastern Arkansas where it becomes a tributary of the Black River, which is a tributary of the White River, a tributary of the Mississippi River. The Current River is approximately long and drains about of land mostly in Missouri and a small portion of land in northeastern Arkansas. Cedargrove, Missouri
Cedargrove (sometimes spelled Cedar Grove) is an extinct town in the northwest corner of Shannon County, in the Ozarks of southern Missouri. The GNIS classifies it as a populated place. The community is located just south of the Shannon - Dent county line on the Current River, just north of the Big Creek confluence with the Current.
