Big 6 Hockey League
The Big 6 Hockey League is a senior men's ice hockey league in south-eastern Saskatchewan, Canada. There are currently nine teams in the league. The league began in 1959-1960 with four teams, the Bienfait Coalers, Frobisher Flyers, Glen Ewen Eagles, and Oxbow Aces. The teams compete for the Lincoln Trophy. The Bienfait Coalers have been the most successful team in league history with 15 championships. Select regular season and playoff games from around the league are broadcast on Estevan radio station CJSL. Ice Hockey
Ice hockey (or simply hockey) is a team sport played on ice skates, usually on an ice skating rink with lines and markings specific to the sport. It belongs to a family of sports called hockey. In ice hockey, two opposing teams use ice hockey sticks to control, advance and shoot a closed, vulcanized, rubber disc called a " puck" into the other team's goal. Each goal is worth one point. Kipling, Saskatchewan
Kipling is a town in southeast Saskatchewan, Canada. In provincial politics, Kipling is in the constituency of Moosomin. The town was named after the English author Rudyard Kipling. History Kipling sites which can be classed as ' heritage properties' include the former CN station, built in 1908–09, and the Kingsley rural municipality office, built in 1919. In addition, a major and highly interesting group of pioneer-era buildings can be viewed on the spacious sites belonging to the Kipling and District Historical Society Museum. The Kipling and District Museum (1903–59) is a Municipal Heritage Property on the Canadian Register of Historic Places. Sports in Saskatchewan include ice skating, speed skating, curling, curling bonspiels, snowboarding, snow golf, broomball, ice hockey and badminton. Highway Hockey League
The Highway Hockey League is a men's senior ice hockey league sanctioned by Hockey Saskatchewan and Hockey Canada. History The league was formed in 1965 with five teams in Bulyea, Drake, Govan, Lumsden, and Strasbourg. Many teams have come and gone throughout the history of the league. Twenty-three towns have had teams in the league at one point. Teams compete for the HHL Robert Schultz Trophy and SHA Provincial championships. The Raymore Rockets won the Robert Schultz Trophpy ten times, which is the most of any team. Yellow Grass
Yellow Grass is a town in southern Saskatchewan, Canada. It is located in the Rural Municipality of Scott No. 98, approximately 25 km northwest of Weyburn, at the junction of provincial Highway 39 and 621. The town is located on the Canadian Pacific Railway Soo Line, at an elevation of above sea level. The town was founded as an unincorporated village and named after the yellow prairie grass that surrounds the area. The town was built shortly after the railway line was completed in 1893. The town site itself was surveyed in 1882. The town applied to the Northwest Territories government July 22, 1903 and became an incorporated village. Carlyle ( 2016 population 1,508) is a town in the province of Saskatchewan, Canada. Carlyle is the largest town servicing the far south-eastern corner of Saskatchewan and as a result, has become the economic and services centre of the region. Estevan and Weyburn are the closest cities and both are a little over 100 kilometres away. Regina, the provincial capital, lies 200 km to the north-west. Wawota
Wawota is a town of 543 people, located along Highway 48 in southeast Saskatchewan, Canada. Established in 1905, its name is from Dakota "wa ota", which means "much snow". Wa means 'snow', oda or ota means 'much'. It is sometimes mistakenly said to mean 'deep snow'. Carnduff
Carnduff is a small agricultural town in southeast Saskatchewan, Canada. History Carnduff is named after its first postmaster, John Carnduff. It was marked on early CPR maps, though that location did not exactly correspond to the present town site later surveyed in 1891. Though Saskatchewan is in the CST Zone, since 1967 it has not observed daylight saving time and the local clocks are not changed in summer.
