Bielski Partisans
The Bielski partisans were a unit of Jewish partisans who rescued Jews from extermination and fought the German occupiers and their collaborators around Novogrudok and Lida in German-occupied Poland (now western Belarus). The partisan unit was named after the Bielskis, a family of Polish Jews who organized and led the community. The Bielski partisans spent more than two years living in the forest. By the end of the war they numbered as many as 1,236 members, most of whom were non-combatants, including children and the elderly. The Bielski partisans are seen by many Jews as heroes for having led as many refugees as they did away from the perils of war and the Holocaust. Tuvia Bielski
Tuvia Bielski (May 8, 1906 – June 12, 1987) was a Belarusian Jewish militant who was leader of the Bielski group, a group of Jewish partisans who set up refugee camps for Jews fleeing the Holocaust during World War II. Their camp was situated in the Naliboki forest, which was part of Poland between World War I and World War II, and which is now in western Belarus. Biography Bielski grew up in the only Jewish family in Stankiewicze. The small village in Eastern Poland (now Western Belarus) is located between the towns of Lida and Navahrudak, both of which housed Jewish ghettos during World War II. Adi Bielski ( he, עדי בילסקי; born January 28, 1982) is an Israeli theatre and movie actress. She was born in Jerusalem and raised in Ra’anana. Education When she was only 3 years old, Bielski took up dancing in a dance studio and during the following 15 years she danced ballet and modern dance in the studio’s group. Early life Asael was the fifth son of David and Beila Bielski, who had a total of twelve children: ten boys and two girls. He was two years younger than his brother Tuvia, who later commanded the Bielski Otriad. Aron Bielski
Aron Bielski (born July 21, 1927), later changed to Aron Bell, is a Polish-American Jew and former member of the Bielski partisans, the largest group of Jewish armed rescuers of Jews during World War II. He was also known as Arczyk Bielski. The youngest of the four Bielski brothers, he is the only one still living ( Asael died in 1945, Tuvia in 1987, and Alexander Zus"in 1995). Ze'ev Bielski ( he, זאב בילסקי, born 13 March 1949) is an Israeli politician who served as a member of the Knesset for Kadima between 2009 and 2013. He previously chaired the Jewish Agency and the World Zionist Organization and worked as a Jewish Agency emissary in South Africa. Joan Margaret Bielski, , (27 November 1923 – 17 August 2012) was an Australian activist for equality for women in employment, education and public life. Early life Born at Narrabri, New South Wales to Francis Ward (a banker) and Doris (née Bull), the family moved to Armidale where Bielski attended St Patrick's Convent and later completed her intermediate certificate at St Mary's Convent in Gunnedah. Richard Adam Bielski (born September 7, 1932) is a former American football player and coach. He played professionally in the National Football League (NFL) for the Philadelphia Eagles, Dallas Cowboys, and Baltimore Colts. Bielski played college football at the University of Maryland. Early years Bielski was named an All-Maryland Scholastic Association fullback in Patterson Park High School. He accepted a football scholarship with the University of Maryland, where he played as a fullback, linebacker, and placekicker. Marcin Bielski
Marcin Bielski (or ''Wolski''; 1495 – 18 December 1575) was a Polish soldier, historian, chronicler, renaissance satirical poet, writer and translator. His son, , royal secretary to king Sigismund III Vasa, was also a historian and poet. He was born of noble parentage on the patrimonial estate of Biała (whence the family name), Pajęczno County, in the Polish province of Sieradz. His alternate surname ''Wolski'' derives from his estate at Wola.
