Bibb County, Alabama
Bibb County is a county in the central portion of the U.S. state of Alabama. The county is included in the ARC's definition of Appalachia. As of the 24th decennial 2020 census, its population was 22,293. The county seat is Centreville. The county is named in honor of William W. Bibb (1781–1820), the Governor of Alabama Territory (1817–1819) and the first Governor of Alabama (1819–1820, when he died). He is also the namesake for Bibb County, Georgia, where he began his political career. It is a "prohibition" or dry county; however, a few towns have become "wet" by allowing the sale of alcoholic beverages: Woodstock (December 2017), West Blocton (August 2012), Centreville (June 2010), and Brent (May 2010). The Bibb County Courthouse is located in the county seat of Centreville. Fort Bibb
Fort Bibb was a stockade fort built in present-day Butler County, Alabama during the First Seminole War. History After the Ogly Massacre, many of the settlers in the surrounding area began to build protective stockades around their homes. Fort Bibb was first constructed in early 1818 and was built around the home of Captain James Saffold. The fort was named for William Wyatt Bibb, who was the acting governor of the Alabama Territory. Captain Saffold participated in the Battle of Calebee Creek, and afterwards settled in the area of Pine Flat. Warren A. Thompson and William Butler also settled in Pine Flat. Colonel Samuel Dale helped to fortify Fort Bibb while he and his militia constructed Fort Dale on the Federal Road in the spring of 1818. Fort Dale was built in response to the murders of Butler, William Gardender and Daniel Shaw. Bibb City, Georgia
Bibb City is a former company town of the Bibb Manufacturing Company in Muscogee County, Georgia, United States. At the 2000 census, it had a total population of 510. The entire city area, consisting of historic Columbus Mill area and the associated mill village owned by the Bibb Manufacturing Company, is listed on the National Register of Historic Places as Bibb City Historic District. Bibb City was incorporated in 1909 as a city surrounding—and managed by—the Bibb Manufacturing Company, which operated a textile mill there. After the mill closed in 1998, the city dissolved its charter on December 7, 2000, lacking funding to continue city operations. Bibb City was annexed by the city of Columbus, of which it is now a neighborhood. Bibb County is located in the U.S. state of Georgia. As of the 2020 census, its population was 157,346. Bibb County is geographically located in the Central Georgia (Middle Georgia) region, and is the largest county in the Macon metropolitan area (metropolitan statistical area).
