Biathlon At The 2022 Winter Olympics – Men's Individual
The Men’s individual competition of the Beijing 2022 Olympics was held on 8 February, at the National Biathlon Centre, in the Zhangjiakou cluster of competition venues, north of Beijing, at an elevation of . The event was won by Quentin Fillon Maillet of France, his first individual Olympic medal. Anton Smolski of Belarus won the silver medal. This was his first Olympic medal. The defending champion, Johannes Thingnes Bø of Norway, won bronze. Summary In addition to being the defending champion, Johannes Thingnes Bø won the 2018-19, 2019–20, and 2020–21 Biathlon World Cup seasons overall, but in the 2021–22 season before the Olympics was stood fifth overall and fourth in the individual ranking. The 2018 silver medalist, Jakov Fak, qualified for the Olympics, whereas the bronze medalist, Dominik Landertinger, retired from competitions. Vytautas Strolia (born 28 November 1992 in Anykščiai, Lithuania) is a Lithuanian cross-country skier and biathlete. He competed at FIS Nordic World Ski Championships 2011 and FIS Nordic World Ski Championships 2013. In 2014, Strolia was selected to represent Lithuania in 2014 Winter Olympic Games. After not reaching any outstanding results in Olympics Strolia moved to compete in biathlon. In 2015, Strolia competed in his first Biathlon World Cup stage, where he finished 87th in the sprint event. He also represented Lithuania in the 2015 and 2016 World Championships. Simon Eder (born 23 February 1983) is an Austrian biathlete. Career His first World Cup win was in the Khanty-Mansiysk mass-start race on 29 March 2009. Eder represented Austria at the 2010 Winter Olympics and in 2014 Winter Olympics. He won 2 medals: silver in the Men's relay in 2010, and a bronze in Men's relay in 2014. Both of the relays together with Daniel Mesotitsch, Dominik Landertinger and Christoph Sumann. He is known for his fast shooting times, having recorded sub-20 second performances on the shooting range. He is the son of former biathlete and Austrian national biathlon coach Alfred Eder. Dmytro Pidruchnyi ( uk, Дмитро Підручний; born 5 November 1991) is a Ukrainian biathlete. He participated at 2014 and 2018 Winter Olympics. In March 2022, Pidruchnyi joined the Ukrainian National Guard to fight during the 2022 Russian invasion of Ukraine. Career Pidruchnyi was born in village Ostriv near Ternopil. Dmytro's first international competition was 2010 Junior World Championships in Swedish Torsby. He didn't have much success then. He also wasn't very successful next season. But at 2012 Junior Worlds in Kontiolahti he finally showed good results which allowed him to start in IBU Cup and debut in World Cup. On 13 December 2012, he was with 6 misses just 98th in Pokljuka, Slovenia. Nevertheless he competed some more sprints that season. His performances improved in 2013–14 season. Vetle Sjåstad Christiansen (born 12 May 1992) is a Norwegian biathlete. Early life Christiansen was born in Geilo, a centre in the municipality of Hol, to Randi Sjåstad and her husband Georg William Christiansen. His younger sister, Tiril Sjåstad Christiansen, is a successful freestyle skier. Christiansen began his career by racing in biathlon and cross-country skiing as a junior on the national level. In his youth, his greatest idol was Ole Einar Bjørndalen.
