Beyond (Swiss Band)
Beyond is a Swiss spiritual music group of women of different age stages and religious backgrounds founded in 2007 by Swiss singer Regula Curti and her neighbours Tina Turner and Dechen Shak-Dagsay. Band history 2007–2010: Formation and ''Buddhist and Christian Prayers'' Already a former mainstream success artist, Tina Turner has been living in a lake house, Château Algonquin in Küsnacht, next to Zurich, since moving there in 1994. There she lived with her neighbours Regula Curti, who wanted to recruit a new music project in 2007 along with Dechen Shak-Dagsay. All three women live religious backgrounds with Curti being Christ from Zurich, Switzerland, Shak-Dagsay, a Buddhist originally from Tibet and Turner, a Buddhist-Baptist, how she calls herself, from Nutbush, Tennessee. Spiritual Music
Spirituals (also known as Negro spirituals, African American spirituals, Black spirituals, or spiritual music) is a genre of Christian music that is associated with Black Americans, which merged sub-Saharan African cultural heritage with the experiences of being held in bondage in slavery, at first during the transatlantic slave trade and for centuries afterwards, through the domestic slave trade. Spirituals encompass the "sing songs," work songs, and plantation songs that evolved into the blues and gospel songs in church. In the nineteenth century, the word "spirituals" referred to all these subcategories of folk songs. Dima Orsho
Dima Orsho (; b. 1975, Damascus, Syria) is a Syrian soprano singer and composer. She studied first at the Damascus Higher Institute for Music, then at the Boston Conservatory. Since 2003, she has been a member of the Syrian Hewar ensemble, alongside Kinan Azmeh, Issam Rafea and others. As guest artist, she has been associated with Yo-Yo Ma's Silk Road Ensemble, Tina Turner, the Morgenland Festival All Star Band or the Baroque music ensemble Musica Alta Ripa. Kareem Roustom
Kareem Roustom () is a Syrian-American composer, music director, and university teacher, noted mainly for his compositions of contemporary classical music, film scores and his collaboration with pop music artists. Among other musical ensembles, his compositions have been performed by the BBC Symphony Orchestra, the Boston Symphony Orchestra, the New York Philharmonic Orchestra and at festivals in the U.S., the Middle East and in Europe. Chill-out (shortened as chill; also typeset as chillout or chill out) is a loosely defined form of popular music characterized by slow tempos and relaxed moods. The definition of "chill-out music" has evolved throughout the decades, and generally refers to anything that might be identified as a modern type of easy listening. The term "chill-out music" – originally conflated with " ambient house" – came from an area called "The White Room" at the Heaven nightclub in London in 1989. There, DJs played ambient mixes from sources such as Brian Eno and Pink Floyd to allow dancers a place to "chill out" from the faster-paced music of the main dance floor. Küsnacht
Küsnacht is a municipality in the district of Meilen in the canton of Zurich in Switzerland. History Küsnacht is first mentioned in 1188 as ''de Cussenacho''. Earliest findings of settlement date back to the stone age. There are also findings from the Bronze Age. During Roman times, a mansion was located on the commons. It was called ''fundus Cossiniacus'' which is probably the origin of the name of Küsnacht. In the 7th century the name was recorded as ''Chussenacho''. Mor Karbasi
Mor Karbasi (born April 23, 1986) is a singer-songwriter born in Jerusalem, and now based in Seville after five years in London. One of her main projects is Ladino music, also known as Judezmo, Spanyolit, or Sephardic—the ancient language and music of the exiled Jews of Portugal and Spain. She writes original material, as well as singing traditional songs. She has been compared to Mariza and Yasmin Levy, but has a strongly individual sound, whichever type of music she sings.
