Bettina Wiesmann
Bettina Wiesmann (born 20 October 1966) is a German politician of the Christian Democratic Union (CDU). Born in Berlin, she served as a member of the Bundestag from the state of Hesse from 2017 to 2021. Political career Wiesmann became a member of the Bundestag in the 2017 German federal election. In parliament, she was a member of the Committee on Families, Senior Citizens, Women and Youth. The Bundestag (, "Federal Diet") is the German federal parliament. It is the only federal representative body that is directly elected by the German people. It is comparable to the United States House of Representatives or the House of Commons of the United Kingdom. Joachim-Friedrich Martin Josef Merz (born 11 November 1955) is a German lawyer and politician, serving as Leader of the Christian Democratic Union (CDU) since 31 January 2022 and as leader of the Union parliamentary group as well as the Leader of the Opposition in the Bundestag since 15 February 2022. Merz joined the Young Union in 1972 and is reputed to be a member of the Andean Pact, a powerful network formed by politically ambitious members of the Young Union in 1979 during a trip to the Andes.
