Betti-Cola
''Betti-Cola'' is the 1993 debut album from Canadian twee pop group Cub. Originally released in fall of 1993, the album was remastered and re-released with bonus tracks in 2007 by Mint Records. The album contains tracks taken from various 7-inch EPs as well as a handful of covers. A 12-song double EP 7-inch titled ''Betti Cola'', with similar cover art, was released at roughly the same time as the CD. The cover art is by Archie Comics cartoonist Dan DeCarlo. Recording Cub recorded ''Betti-Cola'' primarily with microphones and a Digital Audio Tape machine. The album was recorded in various locations, including in Olympia, Washington, and at CBC Television. The cover art is by Fiona Smyth. The track "New York City" was covered by They Might Be Giants on their 1996 album ''Factory Showroom''. The New York City-based band changed some of the landmarks named in the song for their version as they found the original ones hard to decipher. Mint Records
Mint Records is a Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada-based independent record label founded in 1991, by friends and campus radio enthusiasts Randy Iwata and Bill Baker. Mint has put out over 150 releases, several of which have won Juno Awards. History Iwata and Baker started working together at CITR-FM, the University of British Columbia radio station. Three years after graduation, they left the station, and founded Mint Records in January, 1991 to release the music of up-and-coming bands in Vancouver. One of their earliest successes was a band called cub who, alongside Bunnygrunt and labelmates Maow, helped pioneer the vein of indie pop known as cuddlecore. Neko Case, performed in both Cub and Maow, released her first solo album on Mint. Neko Richelle Case (; born September 8, 1970) is an American singer-songwriter and member of the Canadian indie rock group the New Pornographers. Windwalker (band)
Windwalker was a four-piece rock band from Vancouver, British Columbia who were active from 1990 to 1993. History Philippe Doebeli and Glenn D'Cruze founded Windwalker in Vancouver, B.C., having previously played together in various high school bands. They put out an ad in the Georgia Straight which was answered by vocalist Stuart Oijen and Anthony Hempell. Oijen had previously played in the band Silent Gathering with Keith Parry. In 1990, the band won Shindig, a Vancouver-area battle of the bands, which became one of the defining moments in the band's history. During the performance, Oijen carried a pig's head onto the stage and began hacking it with a machete, before tossing the head into the audience. Lisa Marr is a musician, songwriter, film-maker, photographer, and educator from Vernon, British Columbia, Canada, currently based in Los Angeles, California, and Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. Astrud Gilberto (; born Astrud Evangelina Weinert, March 29, 1940) is a Brazilian samba and bossa nova singer. She gained international attention in the 1960s following her recording of the song "The Girl from Ipanema". Biography Astrud Gilberto was born Astrud Evangelina Weinert, the daughter of a Brazilian mother and a German father, in the state of Bahia, Brazil. She was raised in Rio de Janeiro. Tommy Roe
Thomas David "Tommy" Roe (born May 9, 1942) is a retired American rock and pop singer-songwriter. Best-remembered for his hits "Sheila" (1962) and " Dizzy" (1969), Roe was "widely perceived as one of the archetypal bubblegum artists of the late 1960s, but cut some pretty decent rockers along the way, especially early in his career," wrote the AllMusic journalist Bill Dahl. Biography Roe was born and raised in Atlanta, Georgia, United States, where he attended Brown High School. After graduating, he landed a job at General Electric soldering wires.
