Betfair Handicap Chase
The Favourite From The Sun Now Daily Handicap Chase is a Premier Handicap National Hunt steeplechase in Great Britain which is open to horses aged four years or older. It is run on the New Course at Cheltenham over a distance of about 3 miles and 2 furlongs (5,230 metres). It is a handicap race, and is scheduled to take place each year in December. The race was first run in 2003 and was awarded Grade 3 status in 2011. It has been run under various sponsored titles during its history. It was re-classified as a Premier Handicap from the 2022 running when Grade 3 status was renamed by the BHA. In horse racing in the United Kingdom, France and Republic of Ireland, National Hunt racing requires horses to jump fences and ditches. National Hunt racing in the UK is informally known as "jumps" and is divided into two major distinct branches: hurdles and steeplechases. Alongside these there are "bumpers", which are National Hunt flat races. In a hurdles race, the horses jump over obstacles called hurdles; in a steeplechase the horses jump over a variety of obstacles that can include plain fences, water jump or an open ditch. In the UK the biggest National Hunt events of the year are generally considered to be the Grand National and the Cheltenham Gold Cup. Alan King (horse Racing)
Alan King (born 1966) is a Scottish racehorse trainer specialising mainly in National Hunt racing. He is based at Barbury Castle stables near Wroughton, Wiltshire. He worked as assistant trainer to David Nicholson until Nicholson's retirement and then took out a licence to train himself, first at Jackdaw's Castle stables, before moving to Barbury Castle in June 2000. Robbie "Puppy" Power is a retired National Hunt jockey. The son of Irish show-jumper Con Power, Robbie Power rode the 33-1 outsider Silver Birch to victory in the 2007 John Smith's Grand National at Aintree Racecourse on Saturday 14 April 2007. It was his second Grand National ride after his Grand National debut in 2005. In 2011 he had his first Cheltenham Festival winner in the RSA Chase. Colin Tizzard
Colin Tizzard (born 7 January 1956) is a British racehorse trainer specializing in National Hunt racing. He held a full training licence from 1998 until 2022. In 2010 Tizzard trained Cue Card to victory in the Cheltenham Festival Champion Bumper. In 2014 Tizzard trained Cue Card to victory in the Ryanair Chase at the Cheltenham Festival. In the 2015 King George VI Chase he trained Cue Card to victory. At the 2016 Cheltenham Festival Thistlecrack won the World Hurdle to give Tizzard his first success in that race. Paddy Brennan (jockey)
Paddy Brennan (born 13 April 1981) is an Irish jump jockey. He was champion conditional jockey in the 2004/05 season and won the 2010 Cheltenham Gold Cup on Imperial Commander. As of 2021 he is based in Gloucestershire, where he is stable jockey at Fergal O'Brien's yard. Early life A native of Ardrahan, County Galway, Brennan was a keen GAA player with dreams of becoming a county hurler. Although not from a racing background, he had a pony and went hunting. Brennan started out in racing at the yard of trainer Jim Bolger with the intention of being a flat jockey but decided to switch to jumps on account of his weight. Charlie Deutsch
Charlie Deutsch is a British National Hunt jockey. Racing career Deutsch began his racing career with Charlie Longsdon in 2013 before moving across to Venetia Williams in Herefordshire. He fell in his first ride for Williams. Deutsch won the Grade 3 Betfair Handicap Chase at Cheltenham with Aachen in 2015. He would win the race again in 2021 with Commodore making him joint leading jockey in the race. In 2016, Deutsch won the Lanzarote Hurdle at Kempton Park with Yala Enki. Nicky Henderson
Nicholas John Henderson (born 10 December 1950) is a British racehorse trainer. He has been British jump racing Champion Trainer six times. Background His father was Johnny Henderson who was one of the founders of the Racecourse Holdings Trust as well as earlier in life being Aide-de-camp to Field Marshal Montgomery. In 2005 two years after Johnny Henderson's death Cheltenham renamed one of the races at the Cheltenham Festival in his honour as the Johnny Henderson Grand Annual Chase.
