Besta United PNG
Besta PNG United, sometimes known as Besta United PNG, is a semi-professional soccer club, based in Lae, Papua New Guinea. The side acts as the national development team of the Papua New Guinea Football Association, and is limited to players who are under the age of 23. The side made their debut in the Papua New Guinea National Soccer League in the 2009–10 season, finishing bottom of the table. Since then, they have made gradual progress, with their best success coming in 2018, when they reached the Grand Final for the first time, losing 3–0 to Toti City Dwellers. History The side first entered the National Soccer League ahead of the 2009–10 season, with the players consisting of players who had been selected at an U20 competition in Lae earlier in 2009. Lloyd Robson Oval
PNG Football Stadium (known as ''Lloyd Robson Oval'' until 2015) is a sporting ground in Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea. It hosted three games for the 1989–1992 Rugby League World Cup. It has been the home ground for the Papua New Guinea national rugby league team since 1975. It has a total capacity of approximately 15,000 and is the National Stadium of Papua New Guinea. The stadium was completely redeveloped in preparation for the 2015 Pacific Games. History Lloyd Robson Oval hosted its first Rugby league international on 6 July 1975 when PNG played host to England who were on their way to Australia and New Zealand for the down under leg of the 1975 World Cup. In front of an enthusiastic crowd of 12,000 England ran out 40-12 winners in what was the Kumuls international debut game. PNG played the 1982 and 1986 Kangaroos at the oval. Madang Fox
Madang Football Club, formerly known as Madang Flying Fox, Madang Niupetro Fox or simply Madang Fox, was a Papua New Guinea football club, based in Madang. The club was one of the founding members of the Papua New Guinea National Soccer League in 2006, alongside Hekari United, Morobe FC, Gelle Hills and Welgris Highlanders, and are the only founding member still participating in the division, due to clubs folding or defecting to the rival Papua New Guinea National Premier League. Their most successful spell has come in recent years, since the NSL–NPL split, with the side having qualified for two consecutive OFC Champions League seasons, in 2017. and 2018. The 2017 Papua New Guinea National Soccer League season was the 11th edition of the Papua New Guinea National Soccer League. The title was won by Lae City Dwellers, who were awarded the title by virtue of their superior regular season record, after the Papua New Guinea Football Association cancelled the playoffs and the Grand Final. Teams The season was the first after the league split, which saw 11 out of the 18 regional football associations break away from the league and form their own association. The 2015–16 Papua New Guinea National Soccer League season, known as the Telikom NSL Cup for sponsorship reasons, was the tenth edition of the Papua New Guinea National Soccer League. The title was won by Lae City Dwellers, who picked up their second title after defeating eight-time champions Hekari United 2–0 in the final. Both the Golden Boot and the Player of the Season awards were won by Koriak Upaiga of Hekari United. It would be the final season before the league split, which saw several teams split from the Papua New Guinea Football Association to form their own league, the National Premier League. The previous season's runners-up FC Port Moresby were excluded from the competition after failing to submit the necessary paperwork on time, with the club taking the PNGFA and the NSL to court over the whole procedure. FC Port Moresby is a semi-professional association football club based in Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea. Founded in 2012, the club competed three times in the Papua New Guinea National Soccer League until the league split in 2016.
