Berželė
Berželė (formerly pl, Berżałka, russian: Бержалка) is a village in Kėdainiai district municipality, in Kaunas County, central Lithuania. According to the 2011 census, the village has a population of 47 people. Geography Berželė is located 3 km to the South from town of Surviliškis, near the road which connects Kėdainiai and Krekenava. Also there are local road to Šlapaberžė. The small rivulet of Kruostas crosses the village. It is a right tributary of the Nevėžis River. There is the Kalnaberžė forest to the West from Berželė. History Berželė village was mentioned first time in 1572. Etymology The name ''Berželė'' comes from a Lithuanian name ''beržas'' for a birch tree. Once, a large birch forest covered the area and a lot of locations were named with the root ''berž-'', like Kalnaberžė, Šlapaberžė, Beržai, Paberžė. Paberžė
Paberžė (Lithuanian for ''near the birch (forest)'') is a village in Vilnius District Municipality, Lithuania, it is located only about north of Vilnius city municipality. According to the 2011 census, it had population of 919. History The territory of Paberžė was inhabited from the early Middle Ages. In the vicinity of the village, there are archaeological sites Pilata and Pilaškučiai. Paberžė itself is an old settlement, first mentioned in historical records in 1484 when the first church was built. In 1503, Paberžė parish was established. In 1517, Grand Duke Sigismund I the Old granted the privilege of establishing a tavern in Paberžė, profit of this establishment was used to support the local church. Kalnaberžė
Kalnaberžė ('the hill of birch trees', formerly pl, Kałnoberże, russian: Калноберже) is a village in Kėdainiai district municipality, in Kaunas County, in central Lithuania. According to the 2011 census, the village had a population of 324 people. It is located between Surviliškis (6 km) and Sirutiškis (5 km), on the right bank of the Nevėžis river. At the confluence of Nevėžis and its tributary Kruostas II there is Kalnaberžė hillfort. There is library, old cemetery, former school and medicine station in the village. Birch
A birch is a thin-leaved deciduous hardwood tree of the genus ''Betula'' (), in the family Betulaceae, which also includes alders, hazels, and hornbeams. It is closely related to the beech-oak family Fagaceae. The genus ''Betula'' contains 30 to 60 known taxa of which 11 are on the IUCN 2011 Red List of Threatened Species. Surviliškis is a small town in Kaunas County in central Lithuania, 18 km from Kėdainiai, on the right bank of the Nevėžis river. In 2011 it had a population of 351.
