Kent North (french: Kent-Nord) is a provincial electoral district for the Legislative Assembly of New Brunswick, Canada. The district was established in the 1973 redistribution which saw New Brunswick move from a system of plurality-at-large voting (with multi-member ridings) to a first-past-the-post voting system (with single-member ridings). It took the northern third of the former three-member district for Kent County. In the 1994 redistribution, it added the Rogersville area from Northumberland County and was renamed Rogersville-Kouchibouguac. Rose-May Poirier (born March 2, 1954) is a Canadian politician from New Brunswick. She has been a member of the Senate of Canada since February 28, 2010. Previously, she served as member of the Legislative Assembly of New Brunswick for Rogersville-Kouchibouguac from 1999 to 2010 and municipal councillor in Saint-Louis-de-Kent from 1993 to 1999. A Progressive Conservative, she was first elected to the Legislative Assembly of New Brunswick in the 1999 provincial election defeating Liberal candidate Maurice Richard by just over 100 votes – the closest result of the election. She faced Richard again in the 2003 election and defeated him by 321 votes. The New Brunswick Liberal Association (french: Association libérale du Nouveau-Brunswick), more popularly known as the New Brunswick Liberal ''Party'' or Liberal Party of New Brunswick, is one of the two major provincial political parties in New Brunswick, Canada. The 2010 New Brunswick general election was held on September 27, 2010, to elect 55 members to the 57th New Brunswick Legislative Assembly, the governing house of the province of New Brunswick, Canada. The incumbent Liberal government won 13 seats, while the opposition Progressive Conservatives won a landslide majority of 42 seats in the legislature. As leader of the PC party, David Alward became New Brunswick's 32nd premier. The Acadians (french: Acadiens , ) are an ethnic group descended from the French who settled in the New France colony of Acadia during the 17th and 18th centuries.
