Bertram S. Varian Sr.
Bertram Stetson Varian Sr. (May 12, 1872 – June 8, 1963) was a justice of the Idaho Supreme Court from 1929 to 1933. Career Born in Unionville, Pershing County, Nevada,''Martindale-Hubbell Law Directory'' (1958), Vol. 1, p. 1450. Varian attended the University of Michigan, and was admitted to the Utah State Bar in 1895, and the Idaho State Bar in 1899. He served as a judge for the 7th Judicial District of Idaho from 1919 to 1929, when he was appointed as a justice of the Supreme Court of Idaho, to fill his unfinished term of Herman H. Taylor who had recently died. Varian served until 1933, when he was he defeated for reelection by former Justice William McKendree Morgan, who was returned to the court as part of an anti-incumbent wave spurred by the Great Depression. Idaho Supreme Court
The Idaho Supreme Court is the state supreme court of Idaho and is composed of the chief justice and four associate justices. The decisions of the Idaho Supreme Court are binding on all other Idaho state courts. The only court that may reverse or modify its decisions is the Supreme Court of the United States. Justices Justices are elected in non-partisan statewide elections and serve staggered six-year terms. Elections are held in the state primary, now in the spring, with run-off elections in November. The Chief Justice is selected by an election among the five justices and term length for that office is four years. Ada County is located in the southwestern part of Idaho, United States. As of the 2021 United States census estimate, the county had a population of 511,931, making it by far the state's most populous county; it is home to 26.8% of the state's population.
