Windsor, North Carolina
Windsor is a town in Bertie County, North Carolina, United States. The population was 3,630 at the 2010 census, up from 2,283 in 2000. It is the county seat of Bertie County, which is also the homeland of the Southern Band Tuscarora Tribe that remained in North Carolina post Colonialism. Windsor is located in North Carolina's Inner Banks region. History The land was historically the home of the Tuscarora people. Today, there are Tuscarora residents living in the village of Tandequemuc, now called Merry Hill. James Elbert Robbins (June 2, 1958 – August 2, 2020) was an American professional football player who was an offensive lineman in the National Football League (NFL) from 1982 to 1993. Life and career A native of North Carolina, Robbins attended Bertie High School in Windsor, North Carolina. He then played college football at East Carolina. He was selected by the Associated Press (AP) as a first-team interior lineman on the 1981 All-South Independent football team. He also received second-team honors from the AP on its 1981 All-America team. He was selected by the St. Louis Cardinals in the fourth round of the 1982 NFL Draft and played at right tackle for the team from 1982 to 1991, following the team when it moved to Phoenix in 1988. Jethro Pugh Jr. (July 3, 1944 – January 7, 2015) was an American football defensive tackle in the National Football League (NFL) for the Dallas Cowboys for fourteen seasons. He played college football at Elizabeth City State College. Early years Born in Windsor, North Carolina, Pugh graduated from its W. S. Etheridge High School and enrolled at nearby Elizabeth City State College at the age of 16. He played college football for the Vikings on offense and defense and became a two-time All- CIAA defensive end in 1963 and 1964. Liga Leumit ( he, ליגה לאומית, lit. ''National League'') is the second tier level league of basketball competition in Israel. It is the league level that is below the first tier Israeli Premier League. League system The league contains 15 clubs that compete in a home-and-away round-robin. At the end of the season, the top eight clubs advance to the play-offs. The first round is played on a best-of-three basis. Billy McShepard (born August 10, 1987) is an American professional basketball player for Maccabi Ashdod B.C. of the Liga Leumit (basketball), Israeli National League. Jessica Nicole Breland (born February 23, 1988) is an American basketball player for the who is currently a free agent. High school Born in New York City, Breland grew up in Kelford, North Carolina, and attended Bertie High School in Windsor where she was a three-sport athlete participating in volleyball and track & field and basketball. Travis Bond (born December 10, 1990) is a former Gridiron football offensive lineman. He was drafted by the Minnesota Vikings in the 2013 NFL Draft. He played college football at North Carolina. He has also played for the Carolina Panthers, St. Louis Rams, Los Angeles KISS, and Edmonton Eskimos. Bond is notable for his size, having been nicknamed "Treetop" as a child. Bertie County ( , with both syllables stressed) is a county located in the northeast area of the U.S. state of North Carolina. As of the 2020 census, the population was 17,934. Its county seat is Windsor. The county was created in 1722 as Bertie Precinct and gained county status in 1739.
