Bert Davie
Bert Joseph James "Poddy" Davie (2 May 1899 – 3 June 1979) was an Australian sportsman who represented Tasmania and Victoria at first-class cricket and played Australian rules football with Geelong in the Victorian Football League (VFL). Davie was recruited locally to Geelong and played 14 games during the 1917 VFL season, which had been depleted due to the war, and a further 12 games in 1918. He made the seniors just once in 1919 and in what was his last game he kicked the only goal of his career. An opening batsman, Davie made his first-class debut in the 1921/22 summer, for Tasmania against Victoria at Launceston. He scored 56 in both innings and also claimed the wicket of Clarrie Grimmett. Victoria's wicket-keeper in that match, Jim Atkinson, played in the VFL and had also been Davie's opponent when he made his league debut. Hobart
Hobart ( ; Nuennonne/Palawa kani: ''nipaluna'') is the capital and most populous city of the Australian island state of Tasmania. Sheffield Shield
The Sheffield Shield (currently known for sponsorship reasons as the Marsh Sheffield Shield) is the domestic first-class cricket competition of Australia. The tournament is contested between teams from the six states of Australia. Sheffield Shield is named after Lord Sheffield. Prior to the Shield being established, a number of intercolonial matches were played. The Shield, donated by Lord Sheffield, was first contested during the 1892–93 season, between New South Wales, South Australia and Victoria. Queensland was admitted for the 1926–27 season, Western Australia for the 1947–48 season, and Tasmania for the 1977–78 season. The competition is contested in a double- round-robin format, with each team playing every other team twice, i.e. home and away. Jim Atkinson
James Archibald "Snowy" Atkinson (4 April 1896 – 11 June 1956) was an Australian rules footballer and first class cricketer. Family The son of Michael James Atkinson, and Margaret Atkinson, née Markland, James Archibald Atkinson was born in Fitzroy North, Victoria on 4 April 1896. He married Mary Agnes McLoughlin in 1919. Football Atkinson played his football with Fitzroy in the VFL from 1917 to 1925. He was a defender, and in 1922 was a member of Fitzroy's premiership side as well as winning their Club Champion award. Atkinson was club captain in 1924 and 1925. He moved to Tasmania in 1926 and finished his footballing career with Lefroy. He represented Tasmania at the interstate football carnival in Melbourne in 1927. He broke "virtually every bone in his body" during his career, and his injuries finally forced him out of the game in 1930.
