Berowra, Sydney
Berowra is an outer suburb of Northern Sydney located in the state of New South Wales, Australia 36 kilometres north of the Sydney central business district, in the local government area of Hornsby Shire. Berowra is south-east of the suburbs of Berowra Heights and east of Berowra Waters. The name ''Berowra'' means ''place of many shells'', referring to the many shell middens on Berowra Creek. Geography Berowra is located 44 kilometres north of the Sydney CBD and lies at an altitude of 215 metres. Surrounded by bushland, it borders the national parks of both the Berowra Valley and Ku-ring-gai Chase. Commercial area Berowra is largely residential with a small retail precinct lining the Pacific Highway near the train station. Berowra Valley National Park
The Berowra Valley National Park is a protected national park that is located in northern Sydney, New South Wales, Australia. The national park is situated approximately north-west of the Sydney central business district. Located within the Sydney Basin, the park is part of the dissected Hornsby Plateau which is dominated by Hawkesbury Sandstone and predominantly covers the catchment area of Berowra Creek. A contiguous stretch of parkland, from south to north, its southern boundary is defined by Boundary Road, Pennant Hills; its southeastern boundary defined by the western limits of Hornsby; its northeastern boundary defined by the Pacific Motorway; its northern boundary defined by Berowra Waters; and its western boundary defined by a series of creek and gullies as the park extends into Galston Gorge and further south. Sydney Trains is the operator of the suburban passenger rail network serving the city of Sydney, New South Wales, Australia. The network is a hybrid urban- suburban rail system with a central underground core that covers over of track and 170 stations over eight lines. It has metro-equivalent train frequencies of every three minutes or better in the underground core, 5–10 minutes off-peak at most inner-city and major stations and 15 minutes off-peak at most minor stations. Main Northern Railway Line
The Main North Line (also known as the Great Northern Railway) is a major railway in New South Wales, Australia. It runs through the Central Coast, Hunter and New England regions. The line was the original main line between Sydney and Brisbane, however this required a change of gauge at Wallangarra. As of 1988, the line closed progressively north of Armidale with services gradually withdrawn till 2004, with the main route between Sydney and Brisbane now the North Coast line. Description of route The line starts as a branch off the Main Suburban line at Strathfield in Sydney. The line heads north as a quadruple track electrified line to Rhodes, crossing the John Whitton Bridge over the Parramatta River as a double track line. Berowra Railway Station
Berowra railway station is located on the Main Northern line, serving the Sydney suburb of Berowra. It is served by Sydney Trains T1 North Shore Line services and NSW TrainLink Central Coast & Newcastle Line services. History Berowra station opened on 7 April 1887 when the Main Northern line was extended from Hornsby to Hawkesbury River. In 1909, the line was duplicated and the present island platform built. On 23 October 1983, a passing loop was opened opposite the platform. This allowed suburban services to terminate, and from January 1992, Berowra became the northern boundary of the Sydney suburban network replacing Cowan. On 28 August 2006, Platform 3 opened on the passing loop as part of the Rail Clearways Program, to allow suburban trains to terminate clear of the running lines.
