Bernie Schwengers
Bernard Peter Schwengers (26 May 1880 – 6 December 1946). was a British-born Canadian tennis player, baseball player, and all-round sportsman. He is considered the finest Canadian tennis player of the early twentieth century and is amongst Canada's tennis greats. He was inducted into the BC Sports Hall of Fame in 1966 and the Canadian Olympic Hall of Fame in 1973. Tennis He won the Vancouver Lawn Tennis Club single title in 1900 and 1906, and the doubles title in 1906. He won the Pacific Northwest singles championship five consecutive years from 1909 to 1913, was the Quebec Open Singles champion in 1911, and took the Canadian singles title twice in 1911 and 1912. Surrey () is a ceremonial and non-metropolitan county in South East England, bordering Greater London to the south west. Robert Powell (tennis)
Robert Branks 'Bobby' Powell (11 April 1881 – 28 April 1917) was a male tennis player from Canada. Biography In 1904 Powell was the founder of the North Pacific International Lawn Tennis Association. He won several singles titles including the 1901 Western Canadian and Pacific Northwest in Tacoma, the 1903 British Columbia tournament and the 1904 Oregon State title 1904. From 1900 to 1904 he was the private secretary to the Lieutenant Governor of British Columbia Henri-Gustave Joly de Lotbinière. Powell reached the semifinal of the 1908 Wimbledon Championships in which he lost to the eventual champion Arthur Gore in straight sets. In 1909 he won the All England Plate at Wimbledon, a competition and prize introduced for players who had lost in the first or second round of the singles. The Pacific Northwest Senior PGA Championship, also known as the PNW Senior PGA Championship, is a golf championship for senior players held annually, usually in September in the Pacific Northwest. It is affiliated with the PGA of America. The Pacific Northwest League was a professional Minor League Baseball league based in the Pacific Northwest. It was the first professional baseball league ever in the region. History Founding The Pacific Northwest League was founded in 1890. In January 1890, investors met in Portland, Oregon to discuss a four-to-six team league in the Pacific Northwest. The league folded during the second half of the season because of a nationwide economic depression known as the "Panic of 1893." During its time, the league was known for its former Major League players such as Kid Baldwin and Ollie Beard. In 1892 the league President was W. E. Rockwell and the Secretary was M. J. Roche.
