Bernardo Sousa Pereira Brites Martins (born 4 December 1997), known as Benny, is a Portuguese professional footballer who plays as an attacking midfielder or winger for Liga Portugal 2 club AVS. Club career Born in Porto, Martins made his professional debut with Leixões on 14 August 2016 as an 18th-minute substitute in a LigaPro 1–0 away loss to Cova da Piedade. On 26 January 2019, Martins joined LigaPro side Benfica B along with Leixões teammate Pedro Henrique. Months later, he moved to Paços de Ferreira in Primeira Liga on a three-year contract. The Primeira Liga (; English: Premier League, also written as Liga Portugal 1), also known as Liga Portugal Bwin for sponsorship reasons, is the top level of the Portuguese football league system. Organised and supervised by the Liga Portugal, it is contested by 18 teams since the 2014–15 season, with the three lowest placed teams relegated to the Liga Portugal 2 and replaced by the top-three non-reserve teams from this division. The Liga Portugal 2 (), also known as Liga Portugal 2 SABSEG for sponsorship reasons, is the second-highest division of the Portuguese football league system. At the end of each season, the two top-finishing teams are promoted to the top-tier Primeira Liga and the two lowest-ranked teams are relegated to the third-tier league. Starting with the 2021–22 season, relegated teams will no longer compete in the Campeonato de Portugal, which will become the fourth tier, but in a newly created third-level competition named Liga 3 (League 3). The division began in 1990 as the Segunda Divisão de Honra (Second Division of Honour), superseding the Segunda Divisão (Segunda Divisão) as the second tier of Portuguese football.
