Bernard McKenna (writer)
Bernard McKenna (born 1944) is a Scottish writer/producer who has written, or co-written, many hours of British television comedy. He is most known for his work with Graham Chapman of ''Monty Python'' fame as well as his collaborations with Peter Cook and Douglas Adams. He has occasionally worked as an actor, and had several roles in ''Monty Python's Life of Brian''. McKenna previously taught creative writing, screenwriting and comedy at the University of Winchester. Out Of The Trees
''Out of the Trees'' is a 1975 television sketch show pilot written by Graham Chapman, Douglas Adams and Bernard McKenna that was broadcast on BBC 2 in 1976. The show shared some of the stream-of-consciousness style of '' Monty Python's Flying Circus'', of which Chapman was a member. Actors included Mark Wing-Davey and Simon Jones. The concept of the show was, according to Chapman, to follow the exploits of two modern-day linguists who would travel around a Britain gripped in rapid decline. The linguists would comment upon the origins of a word or phrase, which would then be the genesis of a sketch. Although two scripts were written (the second a collaboration between Chapman and David Yallop), only one episode was ever filmed. It was broadcast only once by the BBC, with little promotion, at 10pm on Saturday 10 January 1976 opposite ''Match of the Day'', and so was seen by relatively few people. ''Effects'' (also released as ''The Manipulator'') is an American horror film. The film premiered on November 9, 1979, but did not receive a wide release until October 2005, when it received an official DVD release by Synapse Films. It features make-up effects by horror FX legend Tom Savini, who also appears in the film. Plot The film centers on a filmmaker (John Harrison) who is making low budget horror film in rural Pennsylvania. Over the course of filming, the cinematographer (Joseph Pilato) and a female gaffer (Susan Chapek) begin to enter into a romantic relationship. ''Get Back'' is a British sitcom written by Laurence Marks and Maurice Gran which ran for two series between 26 October 1992 and 15 November 1993 on BBC1. It followed the Sweet family, led by father Martin, played by Ray Winstone, a self-made man who lost his money in the recession of the early 1990s and has to downsize, moving in with his father in a council flat. It is notable for the early appearance of Kate Winslet, who played one of the family's daughters. ''Shelley'' is a British sitcom made by Thames Television and originally broadcast on ITV from 12 July 1979 to 12 January 1984 and from 11 October 1988 to 1 September 1992. It stars Hywel Bennett as Dr James Shelley, 28 years old (at the outset, although 35 by the sixth series only 4 years later) and a sardonic, perpetually unemployed anti-establishment 'freelance layabout' with a doctoral degree. In the original run, Belinda Sinclair played Shelley's girlfriend Fran, and Josephine Tewson appeared regularly as his landlady, Edna Hawkins.
