Berlin Comedian Harmonists
The Berlin Comedian Harmonists are a German vocal ensemble from Berlin, formed in 1997 and committed to recreating the repertoire of the original Comedian Harmonists of the late 1920s and early 1930s. Origin The group has its origins in the ensemble brought together for the musical play ''Veronika, der Lenz ist da – Die Comedian Harmonists'' (Veronica, Spring Has Come – The Comedian Harmonists), which had its premiere on 19 December 1997 at the ''Komödie am Kurfürstendamm'' on the Kurfürstendamm in Berlin. This followed the screening of a film, ''Comedian Harmonists'' (1997), which like the musical was about a Berlin group, the "Comedian Harmonists", which flourished between 1927 and 1934, when it came to an end due to the rise of the National Socialists to power and their anti-Jewish measures. Carla Maffioletti is a Brazilian soprano. She was born in the second largest city in southern Brazil, Porto Alegre, a port town on Guaíba River. As a very young girl she began playing the violin before changing to classical guitar. Her talents were such that by her early teens she was performing at concerts throughout the country. While at university she began taking singing lessons and very quickly developed her outstanding voice. Multilingual, Maffioletti decided to study voice at the Maastricht Academy of Music in Maastricht, the Netherlands, as did her friend Carmen Monarcha. While attending the academy, she came to the attention of André Rieu who hired her as a vocalist with his Johann Strauss Orchestra. André Léon Marie Nicolas Rieu (; is a Dutch violinist and conductor best known for creating the waltz-playing Johann Strauss Orchestra. Hamelin ( ; german: Hameln ) is a town on the river Weser in Lower Saxony, Germany. It is the capital of the district of Hamelin-Pyrmont and has a population of roughly 57,000. Carl Emil Paul Lincke (7 November 1866 – 3 September 1946) was a German composer and theater conductor. He is considered the "father" of the Berlin operetta.
