Berlin, Oregon
Berlin is an unincorporated community in Linn County, Oregon, United States. History Originally, the community was developed around a horse racing course operated by the Burrell family. The races became so popular that the family began charging visitors for meals and their home became known as Burrell’s Inn. When a local post office was established in 1899, it was called Berlin (a single word version of Burrell Inn). The Berlin post office was closed in 1937. Linn County is one of the 36 counties in the U.S. state of Oregon. As of the 2020 census, the population was 128,610. The county seat is Albany. The county is named in honor of Lewis F. Linn, a U.S. Senator from Missouri who advocated the American settlement of the Oregon Country. Waterloo is a city in Linn County, Oregon, United States. The population was 229 at the 2010 census. The city's name, a joking reference to the Battle of Waterloo, stemmed from a 19th-century court decision that settled a land dispute at Kees Mill along the South Santiam River. After the dispute ended, Kees Mill became known as Waterloo. The federal government established a post office at Waterloo on January 5, 1875. S. D. Granger was its first postmaster. Sweet Home, Oregon
Sweet Home is a city in Linn County, Oregon, United States, with population 8,925 at the 2010 census. Built near the site of a prehistoric petrified forest, Sweet Home experienced substantial growth during the construction of the Green Peter and Foster dams in the 1940s. The town's main attraction nowadays is the Cascade mountains through Santiam pass. History Settlers first arrived in the Sweet Home Valley in the early 1850s. A community known as Buckhead developed near the mouth of Ames Creek and the South Santiam River.
