Bergton, VA
Bergton, formerly Dovesville, is an unincorporated community located in Rockingham County, Virginia, Rockingham County, in the U.S. state of Virginia. It is located in George Washington National Forest, northwest of Timberville, Virginia, Timberville and adjacent to Criders, Virginia, Criders near the state border with West Virginia. Bergton is probably best known for itannual community fair History In 1936, the village along with Cootes Store, Virginia, Cootes Store was affected by the Great Flood. The flood washed away many barns, cottages and other features in the area. Bergton was originally known as Dovesville for the large number of Dove families in the region. A post office mandate changed the name to avoid confusion with the town of Covesville. In 1987 the Bergton Elementary School was closed due to dwindling enrollment. Rockingham County is a county located in the U.S. state of Virginia. As of the 2020 census, the population was 83,757. Its county seat is the independent city of Harrisonburg. George Washington National Forest
The George Washington and Jefferson National Forests is an administrative entity combining two U.S. National Forests into one of the largest areas of public land in the Eastern United States. Timberville is a town in Rockingham County, Virginia, United States. The population was 2,522 at the 2010 census, which was a significant increase from the 1,739 reported in the 2000 census.
