Bereznik, Vinogradovsky District, Arkhangelsk Oblast
Bereznik (russian: Березник), also known as Dvinskoy Bereznik (), is an rural locality (a settlement) and the administrative center of Vinogradovsky District of Arkhangelsk Oblast, Russia, located on the left bank of the Northern Dvina River, southeast of Kholmogorskaya railway station and from Arkhangelsk. Within the framework of municipal divisions, it serves as the administrative center of Bereznikovskoye Urban Settlement, the only urban settlement in the district. Population: ~4,000 (1968). History During the Russian Civil War, battles between British and American troops and the Bolshevik troops took place on the territory of modern Vinogradovsky District. The battles also involved the Northern Dvina Flotilla, which acted on the Northern Dvina. On July 15, 1929, the uyezds were abolished and Bereznikovsky District was established. The Russian route M8 "Kholmogory" (russian: М-8 «Холмогоры») or Yaroslavl highway (russian: Ярославское шоссе), is a major trunk road that links Moscow to the Russian North in general and the sea harbour of Arkhangelsk in particular. The road runs north of Moscow across a distance of 1271 kilometres through Mytishchi, Pushkino, Sergiyev Posad, Pereslavl-Zalessky, Rostov the Great, Yaroslavl, Danilov, Gryazovets, Vologda, Kadnikov, Velsk, Kholmogory, and Arkhangelsk, ending up in the city of Severodvinsk. Nyandoma (russian: Ня́ндома) is a town and the administrative center of Nyandomsky District in Arkhangelsk Oblast, Russia, located south of Arkhangelsk, the administrative center of the oblast. Population: History Nyandoma was founded in 1896 as a settlement around the railway station Nyandoma on the newly constructed railway between Vologda and Arkhangelsk. The railway traffic was open in 1898. At the time, Nyandoma was a part of Kargopolsky Uyezd of Olonets Governorate. On July 15, 1929, the uyezds were abolished, the governorates merged into Northern Krai, and Nyandomsky District was established among others. Arkhangelsk (, ; rus, Арха́нгельск, p=ɐrˈxanɡʲɪlʲsk), also known in English as Archangel and Archangelsk, is a city and the administrative center of Arkhangelsk Oblast, Russia.
