Benno Adam
Benno Rafael Adam (15 July 1812, Munich - 8 March 1892, Kelheim) was a German animal painter. Life He was the eldest son of the painter Albrecht Adam, and distinguished himself especially by his depictions of game animals, hunting dogs and pets in larger compositions (deer and boar hunting, fox baiting, etc.) He was associated with the Chiemsee artists' colony. In addition to his paintings, he illustrated several textbooks and manuals, including ''Anleitung zur Rindviehzucht und zur verschiedenartigen Benutzung des Hornviehs'' (Guide to Beef Cattle Breeding and the Diverse Use of Horned Cattle) by Heinrich Wilhelm von Pabst, J. G. Cotta, Stuttgart (1851). In the summer of 1834, he married Josepha Quaglio, the eldest daughter of the painter and architect Domenico Quaglio. Their son Emil Adam also became a painter. Bernese Mountain Dog
The Bernese Mountain Dog (german: Berner Sennenhund) is a large dog breed, one of the four breeds of Sennenhund- type dogs from Bern, Switzerland and the Swiss Alps. These dogs have roots in the Roman mastiffs. The name ''Sennenhund'' is derived from the German ''Senne'' ("alpine pasture") and ''Hund'' (hound/dog), as they accompanied the alpine herders and dairymen called ''Senn''. ''Berner'' (or ''Bernese'' in English) refers to the area of the breed's origin, in the canton of Bern. This breed was originally kept as a general farm dog. Large Sennenhunde in the past were also used as draft animals, pulling carts. The breed was officially established in 1912. Hyacinth Holland
Hyacinth Holland (16 August 1827 – 16 January 1918) was a German art and literature historian. Life Born in Munich, Holland was a son of the lawyer Christoph Holland and his wife Karoline Seel. In 1846 he passed the Abitur at the Wilhelmsgymnasium München. At the Universität of his hometown, Holland began to study Catholic theology, but later switched to law and medicine. He successfully completed his studies in art and literary history in 1853 at the University of Würzburg with a doctorate. In 1853, Holland also made his successful debut as a writer; he published the first volume of a ''History of German Literature'' (planned for three volumes, this work remained a fragment). Throughout his life, he earned his living as a freelance contributor to various newspapers and magazines. King Charles Spaniel
The King Charles Spaniel (also known as the English Toy Spaniel) is a small dog breed of the spaniel type. In 1903, the Kennel Club combined four separate toy spaniel breeds under this single title. The other varieties merged into this breed were the Blenheim, Ruby and Prince Charles Spaniels, each of which contributed one of the four colours available in the breed. Thought to have originated in East Asia, toy spaniels were first seen in Europe during the 16th century. They became linked with English royalty in the time of Queen Mary I and were made famous by their association with King Charles II. Members of the breed were owned by Queen Victoria (Dash) and her great-granddaughter Grand Duchess Anastasia Nikolaevna of Russia. Eugen Adam
Eugen Adam (22 January 1817, in Munich – 6 June 1880) was a German painter. He specialised on animal, genre, landscape and battle paintings. He had his atelier in Munich, and lived in Milan during the years 1849–1858. In 1859 he became war reporter for the journal ''Ueber Land und Meer''. In 1861 he participated in Swiss campaigns, in 1870 and 1871 in the war between France and Germany. His father Albrecht and brothers Julius, Franz and Benno were also painters. Franz Adam
Franz Adam (May 4, 1815 – September 30, 1886) was a German painter, chiefly of military subjects, born and active for much of his life in Italy. Life Adam was born in Milan, Italy, to painter Albrecht Adam, a German who had spent the prior several years in Italy. Franz Adam's first notable work was a collection of lithographs on the Revolutions of 1848 in the Italian states, done jointly with noted lithographer Denis Auguste Marie Raffet. He painted his first masterpiece during the Second Italian War of Independence of 1859, a scene from the Battle of Solferino. His best-known works, meanwhile, depict the Franco-Prussian War of 1870. Of Adam's students, Josef Brandt was the most notable. Adam also taught painting to his nephew, Emil Adam. His brothers Benno and Eugen were also painters.
