Benjamin Wegner (civil Servant)
Jacob Benjamin Wegner (9 December 1868 in Oslo, Christiania – 31 August 1949) was a Norwegian civil servant and lawyer, who served as district judge, magistrate, chief of police (corresponding to chief constable) of Helgeland and Rogaland, and County governor (Norway), governor of Romsdal. He was a son of the timber merchant Heinrich Benjamin Wegner (Norwegian family), Wegner and Henriette Frederikke Vibe i Oslo, and a grandson of the industrialist Benjamin Wegner and of the classical philologist Frederik Ludvig Vibe. He was the father of judge and chief of police Rolf B. Wegner (1898–1986), Rolf Benjamin Wegner and the grandfather of chief of police Rolf B. Wegner, Rolf Benjamin Wegner. Jacob Benjamin Wegner
Jacob Benjamin Wegner (21 February 1795 – 9 June 1864) was a Norwegian business magnate, estate owner and timber merchant. Born in Königsberg, East Prussia, he moved to London in 1819 and to Berlin in 1820, where he established an independent business as an agent in the British timber and grain trade, as a close associate of the London firm Isaac Solly and Sons. In 1822, he relocated to Norway, after he had bought Blaafarveværket (The Blue-Colour Works) on behalf of a consortium led by the Berlin banker Wilhelm Christian Benecke. From 1822 to 1849, he was Director General and one of two owners of Blaafarveværket; the company was Norway's largest and most successful industrial enterprise in the first half of the 19th century and by far the world's largest producer of cobalt blue. Examen artium was the name of the academic certification conferred in Denmark and Norway, qualifying the student for admission to university studies. Examen artium was originally introduced as the entrance exam of the University of Copenhagen in 1630. The University of Copenhagen was the only university of Denmark-Norway until The Royal Frederick University in Christiania was founded in 1811. Porsgrunn
is a city and municipality in Telemark in the county of Vestfold og Telemark in Norway. It is part of the traditional region of Grenland. The administrative centre of the municipality is the city of Porsgrunn. The municipality of Porsgrunn was established on 1 January 1838 (see formannskapsdistrikt). Brevik, Norway
Brevik () is a town in Telemark, Norway, with an estimated population of 2,700. Brevik was established as a municipality 1 January 1838 (see formannskapsdistrikt), but was merged with Porsgrunn on 1 January 1964. Brevik is regarded as one of the best preserved towns from the sailing ship era. The town is located on the far end of Eidanger peninsula ( Eidangerhalvøya), and was a former export centre for ice and timber. The last shipment of wood to the United Kingdom was around 1960. Oslo
