Bengt Nordenberg
Bengt Nordenberg (April 22, 1822 – December 18, 1902) was a Swedish artist. He belonged to the Düsseldorf school of painting and is best known for his genre paintings with everyday life scenes from the Dalarna, Skåne and Blekinge areas of Sweden. He moved to Düsseldorf in the 1850s. Biography Nordenberg was born at Jämshög in Blekinge County, Sweden. He was one of nine siblings born to Per Jönsson Nord (1785-1854) and his wife Sissa Bengtsdotter (b. 1792). He grew up in poverty and became an apprentice to a painter in Sölvesborg. In 1843 he fulfilled his wish to come to Stockholm and study at the Royal Swedish Academy of Arts. In the autumn of 1851, he went to the Düsseldorf Academy, where first Theodor Hildebrandt and then later, Adolph Tidemand became his teachers. Jämshög
Jämshög is a locality situated in Olofström Municipality, Blekinge County, Sweden with 1,494 inhabitants in 2010. It is the site of Jämshög Church (''Jämshögs kyrka'') in the Diocese of Lund. During the Northern Seven Years' War (1563 - 1570), the church was destroyed and when it was rebuilt with a sacristy was added in 1778. In 1803, the church and the surrounding village were extinguished when the belfry, the vicarage and seven farmhouses were totally destroyed. The present church began to be erected on June 20, 1804 after drawings by architect Olof Tempelman (1745-1816). Adolph Tidemand
Adolph Tidemand (14 August 18148 August 1876) was a noted Norwegian romantic nationalism painter. Among his best known paintings are ''Haugianerne'' (''The Haugeans''; 1852) and '' Brudeferd i Hardanger'' (''The Bridal Procession in Hardanger''; 1848), painted in collaboration with Hans Gude. Biography Adolph Tidemand was born in Mandal, Norway as the son of customs inspector and Storting representative Christen Tidemand (1779–1838) and Johanne Henriette Henrikke Haste (1779–1859). He received private art lessons in his home town and his talent was soon recognized. He then was enrolled in an art school in Christiania, moving on to Copenhagen in the period 1832–1837. Peter Eskilsson
Peter (Per) Eskilson (28 September 1820 – 29 January 1872) was a Swedish genre painter. Biography Eskilsson was born in the Billeberga parish, Scania, Sweden. His parents were Eskil Pehrsson and Elna Esbjörnsdotter. He was at first an under-officer in the Göta Artillery Regiment, and then a book-keeper at Gothenburg. After moving to Stockholm, he applied to the Royal Swedish Academy of Fine Arts where he studied from 1850-1853. He made his debut in 1853 at the Academy's exhibition. Through the assistance of Bengt Erland Dahlgren (1809-1876), who was a member of the Academy of Fine Arts, he was enabled in 1853 to go to Düsseldorf, where he studied under Adolph Tidemand. He was compelled for a time to become a photographer and ran a photography studio in Stockholm from 1860. He participated in the Scandinavian art exhibition in Stockholm in 1866. Malkasten
Malkasten (English: "Paintbox") is a progressive German artists' association, founded in Düsseldorf in 1848, during the March Revolution. Since 1867, their headquarters have been in the Pempelfort district. History During the unrest in 1848, artists also began to take part in political discussions. In August of that year, the held an event called the "Fest der Deutschen Einheit" (Festival for German Unity). Many artists and sculptors associated with the Düsseldorfer Malerschule took part in its artistic design.
