Ligurian Alps
The Ligurian Alps are a mountain range in northwestern Italy. A small part is located in France. They form the south-western extremity of the Alps, separated from the Apennines by the Colle di Cadibona. The Col de Tende and the Vermenagna valley separate them from the Maritime Alps. They form the border between Piedmont in the north and Liguria in the south. Geography Administratively the range is divided between the Italian provinces of Cuneo, Imperia and Savona and the French department of Alpes-Maritimes (south-western slopes). Saorge
Saorge (; Royasc: ''Sauèrge''; Brigasc: ''Savurgë''; it, Saorgio, oc, Saorj, lij, Savurgiu) is a Communes of France, commune in the Alpes-Maritimes Departments of France, department in southeastern France. Highway E74 which runs north from Menton, passes through Saorge on its way to the Col de Tende ( it, Colle di Tenda) where it crosses into Italy. The region belonged to the old County of Nice. Beginning in 1388 Saorge was part of Kingdom of Sardinia, Sardinia-Piedmont. In June 1793, Sardinia defeated the armies of the First French Republic in the Battle of Saorge (1793), First Battle of Saorgio. In the Second Second Battle of Saorgio (1794), Battle of Saorgio in April 1794 the French wrested the town from the Piedmontese.
