Ben Putnam
Ben Putnam (January 15, 1886 – 1956) was an American-born farmer and political figure in Saskatchewan. He represented Humboldt from 1944 to 1948 in the Legislative Assembly of Saskatchewan as a Co-operative Commonwealth Federation (CCF) member. He was born in Laurel, Iowa, the son of George Putnam and Emma Lukehart, was educated at the Iowa State College of Agriculture and came to Canada in 1911. In the same year, he married Grace Ward. Humboldt (provincial Electoral District)
Humboldt was a provincial electoral district for the Legislative Assembly of Saskatchewan, Canada. Located in central Saskatchewan, this constituency was one of 25 created for the 1st Saskatchewan general election in 1905. Incorporated as a city in 2000, Humboldt (pop. 4,998) was the largest centre in the riding. Legislative Assembly Of Saskatchewan
The Legislative Assembly of Saskatchewan is the legislative chamber of the Saskatchewan Legislature in the province of Saskatchewan, Canada. Bills passed by the assembly are given royal assent by the Lieutenant Governor of Saskatchewan, in the name of the King in Right of Saskatchewan. The assembly meets at the Saskatchewan Legislative Building in Regina. There are 61 constituencies in the province, which elect members of the Legislative Assembly (MLAs) to the Legislative Assembly. All are single-member districts, though the cities of Regina, Saskatoon and Moose Jaw were in the past represented through multi-member districts, with members elected through Block Voting. Saskatchewan New Democratic Party
The Saskatchewan New Democratic Party (NDP) is a social-democratic political party in the Canadian province of Saskatchewan. It currently forms the official opposition, but has been a dominant force in Saskatchewan politics since the 1940s. The party is the successor to the Saskatchewan section of the Co-operative Commonwealth Federation (CCF), and is affiliated with the federal New Democratic Party. History Precursors The origins of the party began as early as 1902. In that year a group of farmers created the Territorial Grain Growers' Association. The objective of this group was to lobby for farmer's rights with the grain trade and the railways. Laurel is a city in Marshall County, Iowa, United States. The population was 220 at the time of the 2020 census. Watson is a town of 777 residents in the rural municipality of Lakeside, in the Canadian province of Saskatchewan. Watson is located on the intersection of Highway 5 and Highway 6, the Canam Highway. Watson is approximately the same distance from Saskatoon which is to the west, and Regina to the south, which gives rise to its town motto, ''Industrial Crossroads of Saskatchewan''. Arnold William Loehr (March 26, 1886 – 1963) was a farmer and politician in Saskatchewan. He represented Humboldt from 1948 to 1952 in the Legislative Assembly of Saskatchewan as a Liberal. He was born in Spring Hill, Minnesota, the son of John Loehr and Katherine Spanier. His grandfather Johann and family were pioneers in the Fond du Lac, Wisconsin, area as early as 1841 before also later becoming some of the earliest settlers in Stearns County, Minnesota, in the early 1850s. His father, John, was born in St. Joseph, Minnesota, in 1855. The Loehr family filed a homestead in Canada in 1904 in the new settlement of St. Peter's Colony.
