is a Japanese manga series written and illustrated by Takao Saito, published in Shogakukan's ''seinen'' manga magazine ''Big Comic'' since October 1968. is a Japanese manga series created by Hokusei Katsushika, Naoki Urasawa, and Takashi Nagasaki. It was serialized in ''Big Comic Original'' from 1988 to 1994, with the 144 chapters collected into 18 ''tankōbon'' volumes by Shogakukan. An anime adaptation was created by Madhouse, with 24 episodes airing from 1998 to 1999 in Japan on Nippon Television. or ''Slashing Edo'' was a popular ''jidaigeki'' on Japan's Tokyo Broadcasting System. During the decades from its 1973, premiere until 1994, finale, 214 episodes aired.
