Hugh Hale Bellot
Hugh Hale Leigh Bellot (26 January 1890 – 18 February 1969) was an English historian; he was Professor of American History and Vice-Chancellor of the University of London from 1951 to 1953. His writings were published under the name "H. Hale Bellot". Early life and education He was the elder son of Hugh Hale Leigh Bellot MD FRCS (1860-1927), a barrister and alumnus of Trinity College, Oxford, and Beatrice Violette Clarke, and was born in Addlestone, Surrey. He was educated at Bedales School and then won a scholarship to Lincoln College, Oxford. Career He was a master at the Battersea Polytechnic Secondary School (later Henry Thornton Grammar School from 1929 and currently Lambeth Academy) and then Bedales School. In 1915 he became a customs clerk until the end of the First World War. In 1921 he was appointed an assistant in history at University College London. Jacob (; ; ar, يَعْقُوب, Yaʿqūb; gr, Ἰακώβ, Iakṓb), later given the name Israel, is regarded as a patriarch of the Israelites and is an important figure in Abrahamic religions, such as Judaism, Christianity, and Islam. Jacob first appears in the Book of Genesis, where he is described as the son of Isaac and Rebecca, and the grandson of Abraham, Sarah, and Bethuel. According to the biblical account, he was the second-born of Isaac's children, the elder being Jacob's fraternal twin brother, Esau. Jacob is said to have bought Esau's birthright and, with his mother's help, deceived his aging father to bless him instead of Esau. Joseph René Bellot
Joseph-René Bellot (18 March 1826 – 18 August 1853) was a French naval officer and Arctic explorer. Biography Bellot was born in Paris, the son of a farrier, but moved to Rochefort with his family in 1831. With the aid of the authorities of Rochefort he was enabled at the age of 15 to enter the Ecole Navale at Brest, in which he studied two years and earned a high reputation. He then took part in the Anglo-French expedition of 1845 to Madagascar, and received the cross of the Legion of Honour for distinguished conduct. He afterwards took part in Anglo-French blockade of the Río de la Plata, that of Parana to South America, which opened the Río de la Plata to commerce. In 1851, he joined the Arctic expedition under the command of Captain William Kennedy in search of Sir John Franklin. Paul Bellot
Paul Louis Denis Bellot (7 June 1876 in Paris – 5 July 1944 in Montreal) was a French monk and modern architect. Biography He became an architect in 1900 having studied at the École des Beaux-Arts. In 1902 he became a monk of the Benedictines of Solesmes. These monks were in exile in England, and Bellot began building Quarr Abbey on the Isle of Wight. In the Netherlands Bellot designed St. Paul's Abbey, Oosterhout, for the Order. He designed several churches in the Netherlands, France, Belgium, Canada and Portugal. Most of these are built largely of concrete or brick which were his preferred materials. Bellot was a member of L'Arche, an organisation whose goal it was to use modern materials and art for religious purposes. In Canada, where he moved in 1937, he influenced several architects (i.e. Dom Claude-Marie Côté, also a Benedictine monk, and Adrien Dufresne, a layperson) and his architectural influence became known as "Bellotism". Pierre François Bellot (April 1, 1776 in Geneva – March 17, 1836 in Geneva) was a Swiss jurist and politician. Bellot, who never married, studied law in Geneva and was admitted to the bar in 1798. From 1819 to his death he was professor for civil and commercial law as well as civil procedure at the University of Geneva. Under French rule (1798-1813), Bellot held lesser government offices. From 1814 to his death, he was a member of the cantonal parliament, the Representative Council. Bellot was the principal author of the Geneva Civil Code and was also heavily involved in shaping the cantonal constitution, as well as most other cantonal legislation in the restoration period. Silvia Bellot (born 1985/1986) is a Spanish motorsport official who serves as a steward at Fédération Internationale de l'Automobile (FIA)-sanctioned events, the assistant manager of the Carlin Motorsport IndyCar Series team and was the FIA Race Director for Formula 2 and Formula 3 in 2020. The daughter of a racing executive, she was the first person from Spain to be on a panel of stewards at a Formula One race in 2011 and was part of the first all-female panel of stewards at a round of the World Rally Championship five years later.
