Bellevue, Schenectady, New York
Bellevue is a neighborhood in Schenectady, New York, United States. Within Bellevue is the General Electric (GE) Main Plant, built in 1886 and which was once home to the company headquarters from its formation in the late-19th century until moving to Connecticut in the mid-1970s. Historically many residents walked to work to the GE plant. Bellevue, along with neighboring Mont Pleasant, was annexed by the city of Schenectady in 1903 from the town of Rotterdam. Demographics In 2000 Bellevue had a population of 6,223, which was a decrease of 5% from 1990. The largest decrease was by seniors (65+) at 19.1%, followed by pre-school children (0-4) at 7.3%, adults (20-64) at 1.1% decrease, and school-age children (5-19) decreased by 0.8%. Mont Pleasant, Schenectady, New York
Mont Pleasant is a neighborhood of Schenectady, New York, United States. It is located in the south central part of the city and is the most populated of Schenectady's neighborhoods and has the most housing units as well. History Mont Pleasant was annexed by the city of Schenectady in 1903 and 1904 from the neighboring town of Rotterdam. Mont Pleasant was once a vibrant blue collar neighborhood of immigrants, including Italians, Poles, and Jews in mostly two-family homes. Several ethnic churches and at least two synagogues and the Jewish Community Center (JCC) were built in Mont Pleasant. When General Electric and other area manufacturers downsized, Mont Pleasant's residents began to move to the suburbs and the number of owner-occupied homes declined. Stockade Historic District
The Stockade Historic District is located in the northwest corner of Schenectady, New York, United States, on the banks of the Mohawk River. It is the oldest neighborhood in the city, continuously inhabited for over 300 years. Union College first held classes in a building within the district, and later it would be one of the termini of an early suspension bridge that was, at the time, the longest in North America. Joseph C. Yates, the 7th Governor of New York and founding trustee of Union College, and Elizabeth V. Gillette, a physician and the first woman from upstate New York elected to the New York State Assembly, were residents of the Stockade. The Union Street Historic District extends along a section of that street in Schenectady, New York, United States. Covering roughly two miles (3.2 km) of both sides of the street, it includes 184 buildings in its . Schenectady High School is a high school located at 1445 The Plaza in Schenectady, New York, USA. It was founded in 1992 through the merger of Linton High School and Mont Pleasant High School. Schenectady () is a city in Schenectady County, New York, United States, of which it is the county seat. As of the 2020 census, the city's population of 67,047 made it the state's ninth-largest city by population. The city is in eastern New York, near the confluence of the Mohawk and Hudson rivers.
