Talbot County is a county located in the U.S. state of Maryland. As of the 2020 census, the population was 37,526. Its county seat is Easton. The county was named for Lady Grace Talbot, the wife of Sir Robert Talbot, an Anglo- Irish statesman, and the sister of Lord Baltimore. The county is part of the Mid-Eastern Shore region of the state. Oxford, Maryland
Oxford is a waterfront town and former colonial port in Talbot County, Maryland, United States. The population was 651 at the 2010 United States Census, 2010 census. History Oxford is one of the oldest towns in Maryland. While Oxford officially marks the year 1683 as its founding because in that year it was first named by the Maryland General Assembly as a seaport, the town began between 1666 and 1668 when were laid out as a town called Oxford by William Stephens Jr.. By 1669 one of the first houses was built for Innkeeper Francis Armstrong (see Talbot County Land Records, A 1, f. 10/11). Oxford first appears on a map completed in 1670 and published in 1671. Oxford–Bellevue Ferry
The Oxford–Bellevue Ferry is a ferry service linking Bellevue, Maryland with Oxford, Maryland across the Tred Avon River. The ferry began operations in 1683 and is thought to be the oldest privately owned ferry service in the United States. History In 2011, the ferry celebrated its 328th birthday. Until it switched to steam power in 1886, sails and oars were used to propel the boat carrying mostly local workers between orchards and farms. It has been continuously operated since 1836, seven days a week, except for November (weekends only). It is closed for the winter months between December and March. The ''Talbot'' began service in July 1980 and participates in local celebrations, including an occasional wedding ceremony. As a small ferry, it only carries nine vehicles, passengers, bicycles and motorcycles, although it sometimes carries dump trucks and cherry pickers. Clay's Hope
Clay's Hope is a historic home in Bellevue, Talbot County, Maryland, United States. It is a -story, 3-bay Flemish bond brick house with the gable roof, built around 1783. Also standing on the property is an array of outbuildings including the last known tobacco house to survive in Talbot County; a frame structure built around 1800. Other structures include a smokehouse-like frame structure built as an implement storage building and an early-19th-century gable-roofed structure with built-in seats that has been converted into a gazebo. A small Harrison family cemetery is also on the property. Orem's Delight is a historic home at Bellevue, Talbot County, Maryland, United States. The house, which was built about 1725, is a 20-by-25-foot, -story brick structure with an interior chimney. It is one of the few small 18th-century structures to have survived without incorporation into a larger dwelling.
