Bell Tower (band)
Bell Tower was a four-piece alternative rock/garage rock band from Calgary, Alberta, active from 2009 to 2017. Biography The band started in early 2009, with drummer Ross Watson and vocalist/guitarist Thomas Englund jamming in Englund's basement. They met bassist Jordan Ackerman and guitarist Mike Hudec, started playing together and, four months later, won the Battle Royale at MRU's Liberty Lounge. They were offered their first show at the legendary Marquee Room by Battle Royale judge and musician Lorrie Matheson. Also thanks to the connection with Matheson, Bell Tower made their first Sled Island appearance in 2009, and exposure through the Battle Royale competition earned them an opening slot with Hot Hot Heat Hot Hot Heat is a Canadian indie rock band from Victoria, British Columbia, formed in 1999. Mount Royal University
Mount Royal University (MRU) is a public university in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. History Mount Royal University was founded by Alberta provincial charter by the Arthur Sifton government on December 16, 1910 and officially opened on September 8, 1911. Originally "Mount Royal College", the institution was the brainchild of Calgary Reverend George W. Kerby (1860-1944) who sought an opportunity for higher education for the benefit of young people from rural homes in the area. The provincial charter as presented in the legislature by R. B. Bennett was titled "Bill 48, ''An Act respecting the Calgary College''", however Premier Sifton, Kerby and others agreed not to use Calgary for the name of the new college. Sled Island
The Sled Island Music & Arts Festival is an annual independent music and arts festival formed in 2007 and held in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. Each June, the five-day festival showcases over 200 bands, visual artists, filmmakers and comedians as well as over 40,000 attendees in multiple venues across the city. Hot Hot Heat
Hot Hot Heat is a Canadian indie rock band from Victoria, British Columbia, formed in 1999. The band was signed by Seattle label Sub Pop in 2001 and released its first EP, ''Knock Knock Knock'', and first full-length album, '' Make Up the Breakdown'', the following year. The band released five full-length albums, the last being the self-titled ''Hot Hot Heat'' in 2016. The band's style makes use of electronic and traditional instruments and has variously been categorized as dance-punk, post-punk revival, new wave, and art-punk. They made an appearance on ''Yo Gabba Gabba!'', with the song, "Time to Go Outdoors". It was featured on the "Talent" episode.
