Belgium In The Eurovision Song Contest 2004
Belgium participated in the Eurovision Song Contest 2004 with the song "1 Life" written by Dirk Paelinck and Marc Paelinck. The song was performed by Xandee. The Belgian entry for the 2004 contest in Istanbul, Turkey was selected through the national final ''Eurosong '04'', organised by the Flemish broadcaster Vlaamse Radio- en Televisieomroeporganisatie (VRT). The competition featured twenty-eight competing entries and consisted of five shows. In the final on 15 February 2004, "1 Life" performed by Xandee was selected as the winner via the votes of five voting groups. Xandee
Xandee is a stage name of Sandy Boets (born 18 December 1978 in Tienen), Flemish singer who represented Belgium at the Eurovision Song Contest 2004. At the age of 16 she founded the pop duo Touch of Joy with Serge (Sergio) Quisquater. Sergio and his band Sergio & The Ladies represented Belgium in ESC 2002 with the song "Sister". At the Eurovision Song Contest 2004 in Istanbul Xandee sang the dance uptempo song " 1 Life" in the contest. The song was one of the major favourites before the contest, but only got 7 points, 5 of which from neighbouring country the Netherlands, on the final evening. Eén (stylized as één; en, "one") is a public Dutch-language TV station in Belgium, owned by the VRT, which also owns Ketnet, Canvas and several radio stations. Wim Claes (29 June 1961 – 24 February 2018) was a Belgian composer, arranger and music producer. As a songwriter, he was best known for " Like The Wind", Belgium's entry in the Eurovision Song Contest 1999, sung by Vanessa Chinitor. He was also a member of the Eurodance group DJ Peter Project. Belgium was represented by Barbara Dex at the Eurovision Song Contest 1993, which took place in Millstreet, Ireland, performing "Iemand als jij". Barbara Dex
Barbara Maria Karel Deckx (born 22 January 1974), better known by her stage name Barbara Dex, is a Belgian singer who represented her country in the Eurovision Song Contest 1993 with the song "Iemand als jij". Dex had qualified via the Belgian national heat, Eurosong 93, held at the Casino Knokke on 6 March. Belgium was represented by Nicole and Hugo, with the song "Baby, Baby", at the 1973 Eurovision Song Contest, which took place in Luxembourg City on 7 April.
