In team sports, a most valuable player award, abbreviated 'MVP award', is an honor typically bestowed upon an individual (or individuals, in the instance of a tie) whose individual performance is the greatest in an entire league, for a particular competition, or on a specific team. The purpose of the award is recognize the contribution of the individual's efforts amongst a group effort, and to highlight the excellence, exemplariness, and/or outstandingness of a player's performance amidst the performance of their peers in question. The term can have different connotations depending on the context in which it is used. A 'League MVP' is the most valuable player in an entire league, and refers to the player whose performance is most excellent in the league. 2016–17 Belgian Basketball Cup
The 2016–17 Belgian Basketball Cup season, for sponsorship reasons bpost cup, was the 63rd edition of the national cup competition for men's basketball in Belgium. The final was played on 19 February 2017 between Limburg United and defending cup holders Oostende. Oostende won its 18th title and its fourth Cup in a row. Format Teams from the Basketball League Belgium Division I, the Top Division 1 and Top Division 2 (the first three divisions in Belgian basketball) compete in the competition. In the first round teams from the Top Division I and 2 play in 12 groups. From the second round, teams from the BLB Division I enter the competition. In the second round, the quarter- and semi-finals a double legged format is used. When a Division I team faces off against a team from a lower league, no second leg is played. Antwerp Giants, named Telenet Giants Antwerp for sponsorship reasons, are a Belgians, Belgian professional basketball club based in Antwerp. Their home arena is Lotto Arena. 2020–21 Belgian Basketball Cup
The 2020–21 Belgian Basketball Cup, for sponsorship reaons the Euromillions Cup, was the 67th edition of Belgium's national basketball cup tournament. Antwerp Giants were the defending champions, but lost the quarter-finals against Oostende, who would go on to win the Cup outright. On 2 July 2020, a new format and draw were announced by the EuroMillions League. Six teams from the Top Division Men, the national second division, were joined by all Pro Basketball League (PBL) teams for a group stage.
