Koderma Subdivision
Koderma subdivision is the only administrative subdivision in the Koderma district in the North Chotanagpur division in the state of Jharkhand, India. History Koderma sub-division was created in Hazaribagh district in 1973 and on 10 April 1994, it was made a full-fledged district. Administrative set up The district is headed by a deputy commissioner, who is assisted by a number of officers. Koderma subdivision continues to function with six community development blocks: Koderma, Jainagar, Markacho, Satgawan, Chandwara and Domchanch. Two statutory towns are: Koderma and Jhumri Telaiya. Three census towns are: Bekobar, Karma and Domchanch. There are 577 inhabited villages and 122 uninhabited villages. Koderma (community Development Block)
Koderma (also spelled as Kodarma) is a community development block (CD block) that forms an administrative division in the Koderma subdivision of the Koderma district, Jharkhand state, India. Overview Koderma district occupies the northern end of the Chota Nagpur Plateau. The average altitude is 397 m above sea level. The topography is hilly and the area mostly has laterite soil with patches of clay. Monsoon dependent agriculture supports majority of the population. Forest area covers 43% of the total area. Koderma Reserve Forest occupies the northern part of the district. Density of population in the district was 282 persons per km2. Jhumri Telaiya
Jhumri Telaiya (also spelled as Jhumri Tilaiya) is a city in the Koderma subdivision of the Koderma District of Jharkhand, India. Etymology Jhumri is the name of the original village in the area, which is now located in the city. The word "Telaiya" is the Hindi language word for a small lake (the Tilaiya Dam reservoir). Jhumari is also said to be a local folk dance. History Jhumri Telaiya was once a major mica mining center. While laying a railroad through Kodarma in the 1890s, the British first discovered vast mica deposits in the region. Mining activities started soon after and many mining houses were established.
