Beijing Chaoyang Park
Chaoyang Park () is a park located on the site of the former Prince's Palace in Beijing's Chaoyang District. The park's construction began in 1984 and it became Beijing's largest park. It is approximately 2.8 km in length and approximately 1.5 km in width. It has a total area of 288.7 hectares, and a water surface area of 68.2 hectares. The majority of land in the park is used as green space. It features flower gardens, fairground with rides, including a roller coaster, landscaped areas and several large swimming pools. Bicycles and boats may also be hired at various locations in the park. The Beijing Great Wheel, a tall giant Ferris wheel, was to have been constructed at Chaoyang Park, but went into receivership in 2010. Non-Violence (sculpture)
''Non-Violence'', also known as ''The Knotted Gun'', is a bronze sculpture by Swedish artist Carl Fredrik Reuterswärd of an oversized Colt Python .357 Magnum revolver with its muzzle tied in a knot. History Carl Fredrik Reuterswärd made this sculpture after the murder of John Lennon, with whom Reuterswärd was acquainted. When learning of the murder he stayed up all night to work on the piece, inspired by the idea of making a knot on the gun the murderer Mark David Chapman had used. He had previously done pieces of knotted pencils, such as ''Medium’s Memory'' in Kristianstad in 1977. During 1980-1981 Reuterswärd did one prototype of a life size gun in plaster and one in bronze. These are now kept in the collection of Museum of Sketches for Public Art in Lund. The oversized public version of the piece was planned for John Lennon’s memorial Strawberry Fields in Central Park. The Chaoyang Park Beach Themed Park (), known as the Chaoyang Park Beach Volleyball Ground () during the 2008 Olympic Games, is a swimming, samba, African dance, hula and carnival place in Chaoyang Park that used to be one of 9 temporary venues used for the 2008 Summer Olympics. It was built on the site of the ex-Beijing Gas Appliance Factory () but now a part of the park. The ground was used for the beach volleyball matches. The venue had a capacity of 12,000, consisting of 1 competition ground, 2 warmup grounds, and 6 training grounds. Court 2 was used on Day 6 of competition. Beijing Pop Festival
The Beijing Pop Festival () is a rock music festival held in Beijing, China's Chaoyang Park each September since 2005. It features rock bands from China as well as from overseas. It is a pioneer music event in China since it was the first international music festival with a permit from the Ministry of Culture of China. It was founded by Jason Magnus, a Harvard graduate who is based in Hong Kong. The 2005 festival featured Ian Brown, Common, Derrick May, Tang Dynasty and many others The 2006 festival featured Sebastian Bach, Placebo, Supergrass and the launch of a Burton snowboarding stage. There were 4 stages and over 80 acts played to 20,000 people. Chaoyang District () is a core district of Beijing. It borders the districts of Shunyi to the northeast, Tongzhou to the east and southeast, Daxing to the south, Fengtai to the southwest, Dongcheng, Xicheng and Haidian to the west, and Changping to the northwest. Roller Coaster
A roller coaster, or rollercoaster, is a type of amusement ride that employs a form of elevated railroad track designed with tight turns, steep slopes, and sometimes inversions.
