Bedford is a city in Taylor County, Iowa, United States. The population was 1,508 at the 2020 census. It is the county seat of Taylor County. Lake of Three Fires State Park is located a few miles northeast of Bedford. History The community is believed to have gotten its name from Thomas J. Bedford, who was the first west bound Pony Express rider to deliver the mail on its final leg from Benicia, California to Oakland, California on April 23, 1861. Bedford is believed to have operated Bedfords Store and Trading Post in 1848 within the city limits. He moved to California later that year, in the California Gold Rush. Clearfield Community School District was a school district headquartered in Clearfield, Iowa. It operated one school: Clearfield Community School. In 2014 the district had a total of 27 students. Due to a declining financial situation, the district leadership attempted to find another school district willing to do a consolidation, but it could not find a willing merger partner. New Market Community School District
New Market Community School District was a school district headquartered in New Market, Iowa, United States. History In 1882 the school opened in the M.E. Church, and that year it moved to a school building with four rooms. A five-room school house was built after a 1900 fire destroyed the initial location. The 10th grade was established in 1912. Lohn Liggett gave support to a brick schoolhouse built in the 1921–1922 school year. New Market schools consolidated with several rural schools on November 12, 1958.
